Knicks · Should We Be Interested in Acquiring Brook Lopez? (page 2)

no interest in lopez, he can't stay on the floor
mreinman @ 4/2/2014 2:13 PM
Wasnt april fools yesterday?

players like bropez are not what teams are looking for anymore.

Nalod.. very interesting post about iso-Joe. Kinda makes you think much of this is on Woody no?

It's becoming clearer to me that a lot of the offense we ran last season, was the brainchild of Jason Kidd. You notice how we stopped doing what we were doing from last year, while the Nets are running a lot of our old sets?

if I remember correctly, we stopped doing what we were doing, LAST SEASON! Remember after that great start we kind of changed the way we played?- it was pretty much iso Melo the rest of the way, though the difference was we actually went through longer spells when the other players made threes.

We did but then got back into a groove toward the end of the season before flaming out in game 4 of the 1st round. But you get what I mean. Since Jason Kidd left, our team doesn't run any of our old sets.

They don't do it because they can't find the talent to do it. There's a reason why people are still so enamored with the possibilities of adding dudes like Andrew Bynum and Greg Oden. If by some off chance those guys stay healthy, they can have a tremendous impact in swaying a series. Fortunately for the Nets, Lopez has always been a better player than those guys and the prospect of Lopez staying healthy are much higher.

Kidd was able to facililitate the movement that it was. YOu need components to spread the floor, you need PNR, you need penetrating points, and one that can hit the outside shot. It was a modified slower MDA ball. Lots of teams use it because the roster can handle it. When your limited, you go to your superstar and its why you see IsoMelo more this year.

When RasWeed and Kidd were healthy early on you saw it. You had Novak camped in teh corner, this opened up things for Felton to PNR with Tyson........It was a lovely two first months........

THis is not someting kIdd has in a can and is special. Plumlee is scoring off the NnR and doing a great job.

Regarding BroPez, he got the ball because the pieces were not working. Deron was hurt, Livinston was not yet in synch and coming off the bench, Bropez was solid, AK47 was hurt, Teletovic was on the bench, PIerce and garnet were over passing and Kidd had an empowered assistant coach who was doing the job he thought he was bought in to do while Kidd learned the ropes.

A lot of things came together and Kidd has a very good handle on the team. KIdd did not coach the team last year but its evident Woodson's "System" was very compatable with Kidd. Kidd looks good because his roster is crazy deep.

My take on BroPez is very simple and not really special:

1. He has to be able to stay on the court. I don't know what his prognosis will be so Im not pretending to be Capt. Obvious here.
2. I don't know his passing skill at the top the triangle but he has a very good jump shot and his handle got pretty good for a big guy in traffic. This is not a generic "like him or not", this is a triangle thing. PHil wants him, I want him.
3. KNicks and nets not doing a big trade.
4. But if he has a good prognosis based on medical knowledge from doctors who have seen his Xrays than internet hacks like us, I think I would swap Amare for him on that basis. If you want a sure thing bill of health, then a proven BroPez will cost more than knicks got.
Have to admit, its a pure knick kind of move. Expiring for a big question mark kind of guy.

Bropez looked like he got very jacked and his build too big for that build. Robin is the same height but seems more slight and less injury prone. He should take the Tim Duncan route and strive for quickness.

His game is refined in an era that refinement does not exist with 7 footers.

As a shooter he is very efficient. Not enough to make his team better IMHO.

His usage : ast rate is awful, he is a very well below average rebounder and not a good defender.

The team may be better without him.

The rebounding was trending better for a while but his career avg is a big red flag. offensive boards I can understand as he plays away from the basket but defensively is another story.

Bottom line is we can't afford another Dice/Amare situation with a block of cap in a boot!

gunsnewing @ 4/2/2014 3:52 PM
He is constantly exploited defensively. With the occasional block. Not enough

How about that he is averaging > 1 assist per game the last 2 seasons?

He is one that can actually make amare look like a willing passer (not by much though).

gunsnewing @ 4/2/2014 4:14 PM
Yea not a good passer. Awkward in every sense

What star big men are known as passers?

Kevin Love, Gasol, Gasol 2, Howard (he's ok), Noah (he is great) etc ...

Any player with a high usage rate should be able to pass.

I can live with it if he was a poor passer like Ewing but did all the other things Ewing did but he's awkward and has chronic foot problems

But far more are not e.g. LaMarcus Aldridge, Chris Bosh, Roy Hibbert, etc.

If Ewing was a more willing passer he would have been a much better player.

CrushAlot @ 4/2/2014 5:13 PM
Bropez's surgery was described as career saving so I think the smart thing to do is stay away. I do think he is a very good player, one of the best bigs in the east when healthy. I think the Nets will make it work with him. I am not sure that they will be able to retain Blatche.

Who was he passing it to? 2 for 18 Starks?

h20, LJ and spree came on board later and they still got theirs

LA is way overrated but he is avg. 2.0 for his career and 2.6 this year. Bosh averages 2 assists for his career (a lot better than 0.9). Hibbert is also averaging 2.1 per 36m.

Love and Noah and the Gasol's are just great and willing passers. Tim Duncan is avg. 3.1 for his career.

Winning teams have big men that are willing passers.

During Houston's championship years Hakeem avg'd 3.5 assists in the regular season and 4.5 in the playoffs. That was one of the main reasons that he was so much better of a player than Ewing.

Maybe he thought the way you do and thats why he did not pass.

Maybe Melo has the same mindset. Is that ok?

I don't think so.
