Mike Woodson 'bracing' for worst While it is widely believed that the New York Knicks have already made the decision to move on from coach Mike Woodson, sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that nothing will be announced this weekend.
Woodson's fate is likely to be announced early next week.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN that Woodson is "bracing" for the worst, especially after the Knicks conducted exit interviews with players Thursday without the coach present.
It is thought, however, that Woodson has not been told of his fate.
Earlier Friday, a league source told ESPNNewYork.com's Ian Begley that Woodson is not interested in having a face-to-face meeting with team president Phil Jackson until he gets further clarification on his status.
The Knicks' subpar performance this season has led to widespread speculation about Woodson's future with the team.
On Wednesday, the coach said he'd like a resolution on whether he will return next season as soon as possible. Friday on "SportsCenter," ESPN's Stephen A. AT first I was like who does this but then again why waste time for a face to face if you are being fired? What real purpose would it serve? I guess it is poor form for Woodson to have this out but it is likely that his agent shared the info to the media.
i thought jackson might help with class. maybe not.

the team underperformed no doubt. that is one undeniable issue. but insofar as woodson has admitted that the season was a failure because of him, this is another issue. this stuff you are quoting? posturing nonsense. saving face. not to mention that woodson is utterly incapable of instituting system basketball. he has yet to figure out a system and he is an assistant coach until then.

Since when does Woody give orders to his boss. If I did not plan on firing him before those statements, he would have made it unavoidable to fire him now.

He would have been part of the exit interviews- but wasn't- so clearly, a decision has been made about his status. Why drag it out?

I think its the decent thing to do, and if he is being fired- better to let him know through his agent like he asked, than to pretend you're having a meeting with someone who is just going to axe you!
If he wants to be paid the $4mil he is owed he better be at the media and abide to all the media policies and keep his lips zipped
Unless he wants to lose Millions like Larry Brown did when he breached his contract after taking to the media curbside as he pulled away in his SUV

yea - but- no reason they can't tell his agent this, and then still sit down with him.
Now - for all we know - Phil might actually be thinking of keeping him around. Its not like Woody has a system, or actually a good one!
Maybe they bring in someone like Kerr as a lead assistant, just like Woody was for MDA.
And Woody gets another year.
I think Woody's strength seemed to be relating to some of the personalities on the squad.
I'm certainly not advocating.
Knicks will steal headlines from the Nyets next week when they announce Woodson is fired.
I might actually root for the Nyets. It would only push the Knicks to get better and smarter. And I've really grown to respect JKidd

I think Phil asking to meet with him is the decent thing to do, the Knicks have contacted Woody. As Clean said, Woody is being stubborn and giving orders to his boss which is not politically correct at all in a professional atmosphere. If Woody were so worried about getting fired he could always resign. The only gun on Woody is the one he's planted against his own head with his abysmal coaching this season and recent disappearing act.

Agree with this. If you're gonna fire the man just do it and let him move on.
This is Woodsons fault. He could've resigned before the Allstar break but he is too dilusional. If anything he should be grateful the Knicks gave him a chance to turn it around. He didn't turn things around until game 60 something. And he kept using the injury card. You don't see the bulls Nyets and heat constantly use injuries as an excuse. We would've been better off canning him at the break and inserting an interim. We might've made the playoffs and a avoided handing Orlando our lottery pick. The team would've been revitalized with a new voice in the huddle. This year was beyond stupid

He could've still gotten paid Bonn. Dolan did not want more blood on his hands firing another coach midseason but if Woodson had "resigned" it would've been less painful for everybody

Dantoni's deal was done at the end of the season. He got paid the entire amount of his contract. Woodson had another year and if he resigns he gives that up. Big difference in my opinion.

He won't resign because he doesn't want to lose the money, but as long as that option is on the table for him he's not a victim in any way shape or form. All of us are victims of his incompetence this season. So he has to wait a few days to hear he's going to be fired, what's the rush, it's not like he has potential suitors lining up so he has to know right away... I don't care if Woodson is uncomfortable for a few days, he's made it uncomfortable to be a Knicks fan this entire season.
Besides, he's the one prolonging this whole thing, not Phil. If he just met with the man he would have his answer, but he's developed some kind of bizarre martyr complex.
