Dude WTF! Why could shit like this not have happened when we had cap space in 2010 for LeBron or in 2011 when we needed role players.

Because the league is structured to play against the Knicks. If it was structured like Major league baseball we probably would have won a championship by now.

This kind of open up doors for the Knicks to get two good pieces if Tyson has value. How much Tyson is worth would be the key. If tyson is worth a mid 1st the knicks could do some things in the off season to add a player in a S&T plus another with the full mle.

I'm not sure that any mid-1st round team would be interested in trading for Tyson. I do think that if we deal Melo, which should happen, the Bulls would give us Mirotic along with their 16th and 19th pick. If we could get OKC's two late first round picks (21st and 29th) for Tyson, could we package those picks for the Lakers pick, if they can't trade for Love and can't get one of the sure-fire players in the draft (I.e. Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Smart)? Personally, I'd think Exum would be worth a gamble because he'd be perfect in the triangle. If we took back Nash, to help maximize their cap flexibility, I think that a deal like that would have legs if all the other preconditions are met.

You're right but I don't think it is nearly as sinister as you make it out to be. The cap and other spending protocols are all designed to handicap teams like the Knicks but I don't see the league personally trying to piss on our heads. For the record though, I do think that the draft is rigged and that Stern's hate of Dolan screwed us in the 2008 draft. Isn't it a bit odd that Chicago got the first pick, to select a Chicago-born product (Derrick Rose) despite having less than a 2% probability of getting the pick? Isn't it a bit odd that we had one of the 3 or 4 worst records in the league and dropped to 6 in a top 5 heavy draft?

It's a business. If the NBA thinks it's in their interests to have just a few wealthy competitive teams, they'll do that. But they have no reason to think that.

So the cap is set to be: $63mil, and the tax is $77mil, then in 2015-2016 it's projected to be $66mil, with a tax level of $81 mil.
Next season we're at $91mil, but Melo and Tyson combine for $37mil, so if we let them walk/trade, we could be under the cap.
Another key is the future tv deal that is coming in 17 which will increase the cap significantly probably.

From what I understand the increase in cap doesn't affect the Knicks/Carmelo situation at all. Next season The Knicks are already over the cap, so the fact that it is 5 million more means nothing. NY can pay Melo 125 or 129 or whatever it is regardless of what the cap figure turns out to be. A higher cap has absolutely no bearing on what the Knicks can pay Melo. For _other_ teams who have almost the max to pay a player, an increase in $5 million means a whole lot because now they can in all likliehood offer Melo a max contract if they so desire. Hence the tweet saying it's a big deal for HOU/CHI. Ie: Because both those teams who could offer Melo just under the max can now max him if they want. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.
I have trouble explaining this type of stuff so I hope that made sense.
They can offer max but he can only get superdupper max $129m from the Knicks. If anything it raises his price in signing with us

I think it raises the pay cut he can take. Instead of 18M they can comfortably offer him 20-21M for the first year then decrease his salary to 18-19M in 15' without struggling to fit in anyone next summer.
I personally think next year is a top 4 eastern team with a different coach and better rotation selection. I doubt the next coach will play Felton or Bargs if they start off so slowly. Hopefully one of them will be gone or Felton is a back up.
A bit early to be predicting, seeing as none of us know what the squad will be like next year. But without significant personnel changes, I think we're a lottery team again.

True, you're right but I just would find it hard to believe that the knicks could have the worst back court in the league offensively and defensively two years in a row.
