NEW YORK, April 21, 2014 – New York Knickerbockers President Phil Jackson announced today that the team’s coaching staff have been relieved of their duties, effective immediately.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mike Woodson and his entire staff,” Jackson said. “The coaches and players on this team had an extremely difficult 2013-14 season, and blame should not be put on one individual. But the time has come for change throughout the franchise as we start the journey to assess and build this team for next season and beyond.

“Everyone in this franchise owes a great deal of gratitude to what Mike and his staff have done. We wish him the best.”

In parts of three seasons with the Knicks, Woodson compiled an overall record of 109-79 (.580) that included two consecutive NBA Playoff appearances and an Atlantic Division title – the team’s first in 19 years. On Mar. 19, 2014, he became just the seventh coach in franchise history to reach the century mark in victories. Initially named Knicks interim head coach with 24 games remaining in the 2011-12 season, Woodson completed his ninth season at the helm of an NBA franchise, posting a record of 315-365.

The search for a new coaching staff will begin immediately.

Hopefully everyone on the staff is gone. No hold overs except maybe Hopla who seemed to be able to tweet with the mechanics of prigioni, JR & Shumpert at times. Higher release and more arc. JR was the last to credit Hopla. He was a big reason for JR's late season turn around

Finally!

I think this is the first time I've ever found "relieved of duties" the appropriate wording.

i wonder if 'coaching staff' includes herb? it'd be weird not seeing him on the team bench, not that he ever did anything anyway.. could give the fans the ability to chant 'we want herb' once again.
NumberTwoPencil @ 4/21/2014 10:27 AM
Oh, no, not Herb . . . We want Herb! We want Herb!
gunsnewing @ 4/21/2014 10:28 AM
lol used to love the chant but it's time to go
PresIke @ 4/21/2014 10:30 AM
the true sign that things are really changing could be that herb aka teflon don aka the rat is gone too.
Moonangie @ 4/21/2014 10:32 AM
Hallelujah! Let's start over and do it "right" this time?

In Phil we trust...

Finally!

This will be the easiest move Phil makes. Coaxing Carmelo into a sign and trade auction between Houston and Chicago for picks hopefully occurs next. Trade Tyson and JR at the draft for picks.
buddapaw @ 4/21/2014 10:43 AM
Seriously couldn't watch them this past season, about time!!!

Well said Phil! ALL THE BEST Woodson a good guy away from hoops & offcourt. ESPN Colin Herd also praise
new day positives that entire staff of woodson *GONE/ax'ed Or Ka-put! means 2nd nice guy Herb Williams n
longer in fold for knick org. plans & business in helping knick team. we Like Herb but he & rest HADD-DAAA go!

Mike WOODSON knick coach & all his assistants may be hard pressed to soon find other nba 2ndary roles ..moreso Wood

Its a new day ahead in Knicks-land & New Knick president Phil Jackson will get fresh new faces around here to make Knicks good
again sooner than later. In weak east i cant believe Phil/Knicks wanna tank 2014/2015 as predicted cause of flawed roster, however I dont see it same I feel NY can focus on winning culture again, perhaps go 41-41 next NBA yr, if its good enough that it makes Ny
qualify for playoffs then it's exciting
NBA east is weak outside Heat, Nets, Wiz, Bulls so NY CAN be in mix for next yr.
Additionally with Pacers blundering the Indy team dysfunction is more positive for NY KNICKS next yr as well as KG & Pierce/Nets next yr will be WORSE in father time aging'. ALL pluses for NY recup-ing faster than folks realize.

Finally...its been a long painful stretch. And yes, glad to see Herb gone. Herb was nothing more than a "Teflon Rat". Always got the impression he was always squeezing for the Knicks to lose hoping he would be given the head job.

gunsnewing @ 4/21/2014 10:56 AM
My guess is Kerr finishes the 1st rd with TNT then forgoes the rest of the postseason to officially become Knicks head coach
smackeddog @ 4/21/2014 10:58 AM
It's a horrible feeling when you lose your job and are cleaning out your desk, so I'm not going to gloat. It needed to happen, but he seemed to be a likeable guy. And his end record with us is impressive.

A very likeable guy. I hope he ends up with the Indiana Hoosiers (if they fire their coach.) He deserves a job he has pride in and where he has more security.

JesseDark @ 4/21/2014 11:03 AM
I thoght there was a law that we had to retain Herb Williams.

i will say this.. i was lucky to enough to share a few beers with a 10+ year nba vet about a month ago.. this guy played for woodson in atlanta. he does not like woodson and said scott skiles was the only other coach who was as big of an asshole. i was a bit surpised since it always seemed like woodson was a players coach, but he said not at all.

I'm sure Woody has a different feeling he still has a year on his contract with 3.4 mill on it.
