Knicks · OT: Donald Sterling is An Old School Racist (page 2)

Racism is not black and white(Drum Roll!). Slave owners were undoubtedly racists right? Well they sometimes had sex with black women. I am no expert in this field but I would say they tolerate races. They hate black people but if they had a chance to have sex with Beyonce I think most of them would. They hate black people but if they had a chance to make money off them they would. This might be the reason why Sterling was so cheap with his team until recently. If he had to tolerate black people why not make money from it.

Makes me think of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings, his slave/concubine who was the half-sister of his wife.

Makes me laugh when white people are all judgmental about black American fatherhood when every person I've ever met with the last name Washington or Jefferson has been black. My ancestors were "owned" by my ancestors! Bundy is talking about Black people having a better family life in slavery. My dad may not have been around but he didn't fucking sell me.

Ugh. What a terrible situation for that organization to deal with.

I feel bad for the players and coaches on the team, i wouldn't even play for that jack ass. I would demand a trade in the off season..

It would be nice if the NBA suspended Sterling from the team like MLB did to Marge Schott. I agree with Sterling's right free speech, but this is embarrassing. Mark Cuban has been fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for saying things that aren't nearly as offensive. Yet no one bats a friggin' eyelash when Sterling says this crap. Sterling is a virulent racist and I would think the league's owners are embarrassed by it.

Yes, I know. I was just bringing up one of the popular outs of what some would say when called a racist.

yellowboy90 @ 4/26/2014 3:28 PM
How will this affect their free agency and draft? Will players(of all races) take a stand? Also, how many discrimination lawsuits have he opened himself up to with employees who may not have advance as they thought they should?

I also wonder what fans would do when they go back to LA.

Because men have two heads and as a result, two minds. How many times have you slept with a chick that you knew was bad news bears because the littler head overruled the bigger head?

DrAlphaeus @ 4/26/2014 3:39 PM
Yet another social media backlash:

Here you have in the middle column a steady stream of a PR nightmare brought to you by Sprint.

Think maybe the folks at the Sprint marketing department may have a word with Adam Silver?

Ha, glad you referred to the correct anatomy. When you said the "heart wants what it wants" I was gonna respond "well, depends where it's pumping that blood to"

Not defending Sterling at all but Cuban was usually fined for criticizing the NBA (still think that's stupid). Sterling was having what he thought was a private conversation with his very hot gf. The NBA probably will do something because of the backlash though. Anything to stop them from losing money.

I understand. But in the long run, I think few people care whether or not Mark Cuban thinks a rule sucks or if the referees are doing a bad job. Sterling's comments on the other hand are a true embarrassment to the league. I think people who aren't even fans of the NBA fans were offended by Sterling's comments.

Yep completely agree. Cubans comments were a him vs Stern thing after a while. Sterlings comments are much more serious. I'm really anticipating what Silver will do (what a way to start the job).

I heard the rumors too but there is nothing like confirmation, to dispel all doubt. I came off judging his girlfriend harshly because you know she was fucking him but gold-diggers got to eat too I suppose. Then again, I use to have sex with someone who didn't like Black people so am I really better? The heart wants, what it wants.

Yeah I usually don't like to throw the term gold digger around but It's hard not to have that thought sneak in your mind when you look at her and then him.

As for Sterling, I don't know what the NBA can really do about this to be honest. The players can do something but I doubt they will.

The league is very concerned about image and operates as a conglomerate rather than 30 independent entities. I wouldn't be surprised if the Board of Governors could force him to sell on those grounds. I suspect that these could be the last few days of Sterling being the principle owner of the Clippers because I expect them to feel a financial squeeze from outside groups.

He doesn't have a strong enough character to distance himself from that. Which is interesting to me as we often talk about minorities and a lot of the gang and street culture that they have trouble escaping. But never heard a billionaire talk about a specific culture that he can't escape.

The fact that its a culture of very wealthy people is even more alarming. How much influence do these raciest billionaires have in society?

I think they have all the influence on society. When I look at our political system, I don't see much of a difference in the economic plans between the two respective parties. When we vote, we vote on social issues and is why one side is completely focused on things like repealing the Voting Rights Act, Affirmative Action and the like. That'd be the one Donald Sterling votes for.

His thought process has been exposed like never before, and the same girl he calls a friend put him on world wide blast, CNN and ESPN will run this story for a good while.

I'm trying to make sense of why would his GF do that, he's set to lose millions

This is why its irksome to hear idiots talk about how we live in a "post-racial society" and don't need things like Affirmative Action. There's a difference between your run-of-the-mill racist and a Donald Sterling. In a world where money dictates politics, men like him can really erode at the progress made in years past.

This is exactly how the Supreme Court thinks. They struck down voting rights laws and the next day a bunch of states made it harder for black people to vote.

Its unfortunate but true. Hopefully the extremist ones die of old age and we can replace them with more moderate individuals while we have a "liberal" in office. We'll still have to deal with the corporatist bullshit but at least it'd be parred down compared to the tools that represent the majority of the court.

I doubt any of his employees do anything. No one wants to rock the boat and in this shitty economy, any job is considered a luxury. Hell, Elgin Baylor worked for him for nearly 23 years and didn't say a thing about Sterling or his racist ways until he got fired. And so the world turns.

Sterling probably dumped her a while ago. I suspect that she purposely waited until the playoffs to release the tapes, in an attempt to maximize the stories coverage. Sterling's no good egg but she is no better. She knew the man she was dating and now is going to play the "woe is me; I'm the victim" card and get some exposure for herself. I wouldn't be surprised if we find her writing a tell-all book and/or getting a reality TV show if Sterling doesn't pay her hush money.
