Didn't Baylor lose his court case though? What was the evidence that he presented that was so damning? Not that i think Sterling is innocent nice guy, but was there really enough to go on to punish him over the Baylor age discrimination situation?

Yes, we have weird values. When you watch a Knicks game, you must NOT care if Knicks win or lose then. Worst person may be Donald Sterling, but Jimmy Dol IS the worst owner period. Not sure why you took a jab at us like that, unless you work for Jimmy Dol, then I totally understand.
Donald Sterling has been known to be a racist by the LA community. I hope now Baylor can reopen his case and finally get justice. When I watched Baylor struggling on TV to explain his situation, I felt sorry for the guy but thought the jury must be right since it was a very well selected jury, but hopefully now Baylor can get some justice.
I feel like Baylor would be full of shit if he tried to get any damages. Like I said, he ran the team for 23 years and didn't have a problem with Sterling until he got fired. When you consider the shelf life of your average executive, Baylor had well exceeded his time there.
The Clippers have sucked for decades for a reason.
He, Sean Hannity and Clive Bundy have the same hairdresser.
The frustration on Doc Rivers' face was thick. What does a coach tell his players?
Win for each other.
lol was just gonna say Sterling much be an avid Fox news follower

He lost because he just didn't have enough. He also didn't stand up to the guy when he should have (fear of losing his top-end job when back then no blacks have ever reached that high), and that contributed to his conflict. There were also other documents, memos that hindered the case for him but nothing solid to prove Sterling was discriminating on hiring, especially Baylor is black really helped Sterling look good.

I don't always like how David West conducts himself on the court but the guy is pretty bright. I feel like I would like him on a personal level if I knew him.
Racist NBA team owners don't win NBA championships
Too bad clippers!

Baylor was the PERFECT guy for Sterling. He is black, never complains to Sterling about discriminating his kind, never publicly denounce Sterling. When Sterling told him to do something, he does it quietly and for low wages. He was basically a slave for Sterling. Sterling used him as a shield to shun away all the minorities trying to sue him. The Justice department did couple times of suing him and they settled out of court I think. He is basically very shrewd, but now in his old age, and probably things like the death of his son last year made him less careful and arguing with his girlfriend brought the worst in him. He is the longest owner of an NBA team, but that looks to be history soon.. :)

Exactly why i responded to tkf's insistence that the NBA should have done something at that time...there wasn't anything concrete to punish him for.

I totally agree with you on that. The NBA did absolutely nothing to help Baylor and continued to let Sterling be an owner and even further, gave him the chance to get Chris Paul while blocking CP3 going to Lakers. I'm not saying what NBA did was wrong in terms of the blocking, but they should have tried to remove Sterling as an owner even if it's just his long time reputation as a racist (weird, considering he's a full blown Jew) is good enough reason for me if I were an NBA executive.

Dude, everyone can be racist, including Jews.
But what could the NBA really do about Sterling? Imagine a league where a guy could lose his investments on supposition and hearsay. Would you want to invest hundreds of millions of dollars on something like that? Do you think that is a good model for steady growth? The circumstances today are a little different though because Sterling has forced the league's hand. But even I, a Black man, would hate to see that happen to a guy without concrete evidence.
As for the league sending CP3 to LAC, they were doing themselves a favor on both fronts. They effectively turned a team in one of the largest markets in the world into a contender AND they got a slew of assets for a team they were looking to offload to a prospective owner, for the most money as possible. In business, there are no morals; only profit motives. It's why we need another agency/entity to regulate them on that front.

Every slave-master needs a slavehand. You could look at politics and see that "we have brown faces, so we're not racist" strategy in full force. As for basketball, Sterling was the only guy dumb enough to make the comments he did so carelessly but he's not the only owner in professional sports that is of that sentiment. Besides being super-cheap, it is why I don't have a desire to directly support any of these men or their enterprises beyond casual viewership.
Man this is really bad. An owner of a team that plays a sport dominated by a group of people he feels that way about? It's just sad.
Also to read that his GF is part black and she is still hanging around with him? That is just crazy.
There is no doubt racism is alive and well but it is always disappointing to see it at this level. It's bad no matter what but this is just sick.
It is truly frustrating because I believe it sets already fragile race relations back every time this happens.
as a jewish person he should be more sensitive to discrimination
NardDogNation wrote:As for basketball, Sterling was the only guy dumb enough to make the comments he did so carelessly but he's not the only owner in professional sports that is of that sentiment.
To his credit, it was a presumably private argument with his girlfriend about her Instagram feed, not public comments like that dumbass Bundy. I imagine that kind of argument happens all over with dumb shit being said but no one is recording them, lucky for them! But man… hot coz your chick is posting a pic with Magic Johnson, not Wacka Flacka Flame or somebody else… maybe he's afraid she'll get a taste and start ending up in hip-hop videos. "walking with minorities"… The whole situation is unsavory.
History Lesson
"Personally I would like to have a White southern coach coaching poor Black players."
- former Clippers executive Elgin Baylor's court testimony on Sterling's response to him suggesting they at least look at a Black coach as a candidate.
Here endeth the lesson
So this woman is apparently being sued by Sterling and said that she would "get even" or something to that effect

He's a lawyer dude. He should have the street smarts to know that any form of communication via a device is essentially public. I say that because that kind of discourse could easily be recorded (as it was) or intercepted by a third party e.g. the government or some kind of hired hand looking for dirt. You would think that a self-made billionaire would have the common sense not to get himself caught like that.
