Knicks · Marc Stein: Mavs Plan To Attempt To Reacquire Tyson (page 2)

Good they can have him. We need Draft picks preferably any they own from lottery teams as part off the deal.

Anyone think who plays the middle for us when he is gone?

You wanna rebuild, thats one thing. We trying to win 50+ games??? Thats another.

Well you can only pencil Tyson in for 50 games and at least 10 of those he will be recovering from something so I don't think you are losing much.
RonRon @ 5/6/2014 6:51 PM
Think Mavs would only take Chandler back if it comes with a sign and trade with Carmelo Anthony

Dallas currently owns our 2014 but have to send the it to Orlando while keeping their own
They also own our 2016 1st round pick

Can we get 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders
Is OKC interested with Chandler and Iman?

I wonder what we can get if we send both CA and Chandler to Dallas, though I don't think we would get much for CA since they would have the ability to sign him with cap space
But making a trade allows to to resign their own players in Dirk, Marion, Carter, and possibly Blaire/Devin Harris, and use the 5m MLE, possibly on 2 players

Dallas is in Texas so the the NO STATE tax rule in addition to keeping a very strong core
Though I don't see why they would want Tyson's Chandler's expiring with both Dalembert and Brandon Wright being at least more cost efficient than Chandler
They are very deep in the PG position and could possibly send us back some players, draft picks, and a large addition to a trade exemption though

Can we dump Amare and/or Bargnani for giving up Tyson? I'd take back Samuel Dalembert and Brandon Wright to make the deal work financially. If they would be willing to take on that $50 million, I wouldn't need picks back in return. It would be cool if we had cap space in 2014 to jump start our rebuilding process.

I think we should focus on getting Draft picks instead. Let Amare and others expire next year while we load up on ways to get good talent from the Draft.

You're probably right. Picks are tangible; cap space is not. I'd probably offload Bargnani with him though and demand picks. I still think our surest option is to trade Tyson to OKC for BOTH of their 2014 picks, Kendrick Perkins, Hasheem Thabeet and a few contracts to balance it out. From there, I'd dump Kendrick Perkins on the Mavs, who have a penchant of acquiring no-talent, big money, centers to be "enforcers".

Tyson can kick rocks. Our defense will instantly improve with him gone

Would never happen. They're going to tie up over $60 million dollars in their front court(with Dirk resigning?)

I agree here-Cole Aldrich can basically replace what we got out of Tyson this year, and do so much cheaper. We can't afford the luxury of Tyson. Free up cap space and try to get some PG help...

RonRon @ 5/6/2014 9:01 PM
Read it wrong, Denver owns our picks, Dallas only has pick 51 (Boston's pick) in this draft
Then they own all of their own picks after giving up this years pick to OKC

Possible starting lineups

Calderon
Ellis
Melo
Marion
Dirk? (though likely will resign, already said he would take considerably less in the 10m range for the better of the team)

Ellis
Carter
Melo
Dirk
Chandler/Dlembert/Wright

3.2m MLE??? (could be used to resign Blair or Harris, unless Cuban can convince then to resign for the vet min with player option for 2nd, sacrificing 1 year as the Mav's will have their early bird rights, IF SO, they can add another impact player with the 3.2m MLE

Devin Harris? and Larkin/Gel Mekel (assuming at least one of their young PG's would be sent back to us)
Carter??
Ellington (could also be traded, with a 2.5m expiring for next season)
Blair?
Brandon Wright, Tyson Chandler, Samuel Dalembert

The Young and expendables

Ricky Ledo
Shane Larkin
Gel Mekel

RFA
=========
Jae Crowder?
Bernard James?

? = they are FA's and are not on the payroll of next season
They have some nice young talents and decent role players that I would have interest in but simply not enough value for CA

With a trade with NYC for both Melo and/or Tyson
Dallas can resign all of their UFA's and RFA's
With their limited draft picks, I would prefer trades with other teams though Melo has all the leverage this time
Because of that I would demand them to take back Felton's contract, possibly even Pablo, and for JR Smith (hoping he steps it out next season and we trade him as his value increases by the trade deadline as he possibly could get back to his prior form last season on his contract year

in addition to using the 3.2m MLE

though they would be one of the top HIGHEST payrolls, Cuban can afford it, and it would allow Dirk to make a final stand and retire as a Maverick
He seems to like

Marion and Carter (wanting them to retire as Mav's), and even Harris/Blair
With Chandler, maybe it is also a move to make amends, and to keep all of these players with a trade, much like the Bklyn Nets did with Joe Johnson, Lopez, and how they continued to use their salaries and future moves for Pierce/KG

nixluva @ 5/6/2014 9:02 PM
I'm hoping and PRAYING that this kind of deal goes down this summer. We've got to be able to move someone like Tyson to get some value and lower our cap number. It would be the deal that could allow Phil to convince Melo we can really do something, even this summer, to start to improve this team. Plus if Melo is determined to leave it still allows us to make some kind of moves to improve the team for the future.

Wouldn't we be better served just letting Melo walk? It seems to me like we're doing the Mavs a huge favor and I don't understand our incentive for doing so. A shitty late first round pick or two, doesn't justify us giving up two all-stars.

Bonn1997 @ 5/8/2014 10:03 AM
Would the salaries have to match even if Dallas is under the cap? They don't have any player or set of players making $15 mil that I want. (Obviously they're not sending us Dirk)

If Dallas is under the cap they can absorb Tyson's contract and the Knicks get a TPE. Dallas has zero to provide except for maybe a young unknown pg and future picks. The only thing Dallas have for the Knicks is a chance to get a better deal from another team.

Tyson's play and his cap friendly deal deserves a 1st round pick + other incentives.

I would love to take a shot at Brandon Wright and have Phil work with him. I think that he is a misused talent.

Would like to get Henson from the bucks. Henson and Mayo for Chandler is something I would look into. Maybe a three way deal between Dallas, Knicks and Bucks would something that should be looked into.

He would be a nice bench player but he is undersized and is not a great defender. For me they would have to include a 2016 1st and multiple 2nd round picks. I think people know Contract Tyson would be impervious to any sickness or quititis. Plus he is a great locker room guy. Just ask Mike Breen.

I doubt the Bucks are the kind of team that would take on Chandler because that is a young roster that are a few drafts and years of development away. I could see them bring in Vets in 2 years to go along with the Greek and possibly Wiggins.(How athletic would that be is they put Wiggins at the 2 and Giannis at the 3) Plus they have Larry Sanders sign to a huge deal.

I do think they will probably Dump salary and players like Mayo, Ilyasova, and even Sanders.

Me personally, if they want to dump salary I'd offer Shump, Bargs, and a future 2nd ,if I can get it, for Ilyasova and Middleton. Players like Ilyasova have been got for less on better contracts.

Not straight up but I would like him included. His defense has gotten better and offensively he seems to play really well when he gets PT.

Sure, why not? Its not like Cuban is averse to spending big money and it would only be for a year before that Knick trio expires. What else are they going to spend their money on in this weak free agent class?
