Queens NY
Three years experience. Built great chemistry with his team.
51 wins without his starting center. Took a dominant team to seven games.
Old school enough to appreciate the legends of the game and handle veteran egos. New school enough to manage yutes.
Tough guy. Proven winner.

Systems don't make coaches. Healthy relationships with players make coaches.

I would argue that Mark probably does have a system that Phil could embrace - Phil wants movement to lead to easy scoring opportunities- and that is what GS did with Mark.
I'm kinda of at a toss up between Kerr & MJ- I like that Kerr might be more of a surrogate coach for Phil- but then that could be an issue too, and he is unproven.
Plain and Simple
franco12 - there is not a single item, in any coaching criteria, that Steve Kerr holds an advantage over Mark Jackson.
The Answer Man double dog dares anyone to list one, and back it with facts.

he played in the triangle for 5 years. that's a fact.
he played for phil jackson for 5 years and gregg popovich for four years-- two coaches with tremendous leadership skills and divergent coaching styles. that's a fact.
he has five rings. that's a fact.
he has been a color commentator for about as long as mark jackson had been, if not longer. that's a fact.
so... what was it you were trying to say about steve kerr again?
I think his cross to bare is that he might be overly religious. When people start putting that over others on a heavy level--it can become suffocating

Now don't shoot the messenger earl, but I heard on ESPN that GS mgmt apparently did not like all the focus on isolations by Curry. If that's true it might knock Jackson out of the running as thats exactly what Phil wants to get away from.
Doesnt mean that Mark can't alter his game plan, even Phil said that it doesnt have to be his system, but some kind of system. It does make Mark being hired less likely. Woudnt mind at all if Mark got the job.
I am a big mark Jackson fan but I am not sure he is a good fit with Phil. I could be wrong but I think Phil is still transitioning from being on the bench and would want to have a lot of input in how the team is coached and plays. MJax barred Jerry West from attending practice so I think he would want autonomy with his team. He also Refused to relocate to the Bay area and does not want to leave his church. From a distance it doesn't seem like a move either mark or Phil are interested in making.
dk7th. C'mon Son!
Dennis Rodman played in the triangle for 4 years under Uncle Phil, and Popovich for 2 more. That don't make him head coaching material.
The color commentator comparison is never a valid criteria for head coaching ability.
Is that all you got?
Really?
GustavBahler - complaints about running plays for Steph Curry are almost as crazy as someone bemoaning running plays for Kobe Bryant.
Some players deserve first class treatment. Sports is like that.
No coach is above a valid critique. None of them are perfect. In the case of Mark Jackson, given his record, it borders on nit picking. At worst, it is arbitrary.
Steve Kerr has never won a single NBA game as a head or assistant coach. Yet, he is invulnerable to questioning?

Any reason given as to why West was barred?

I agree that isos have become a dirty word and are part of the game, its a question of frequency. I havent seen enough of GS to say if they went to that well too often, which can happen. Also agree that he shouldnt have been fired but its fair for posters to ask if Phil and Mark would mesh.
I like Mark Jackson, I still remember his no look mid court pass vs Fordham to Willie Glass for a dunk. But no I do not want him as the coach even if Melo say I only come back if he is the coach.

No and Jax denied banning him. It seems like semantics. Apparently Jax requested West not attend practices.
This has zero chance of happening. zero.
There is no way that Phil brings in a coach who just got fired for questionable practices.
Phil wants to bring in HIS own guy who shares a tight alliance.
MJax would be a dangerous and stupid move and Jackson is too big to fail - not for a possible I told you so scenario
Gustav - it is absolutely fair for posters to ask if Phil and Mark would mesh. Lack of cohesion between the front office and the bench has been the Knicks fatal flaw. Why else would we be watching a cavalcade of former Knicks in the playoffs?
At the end of the day, given how far we have fallen behind Washington, Brooklyn and Toronto, Uncle Phil better focus on getting better players.
Unlce Phil and Mark Jackson don't need to be lovers. They just need to be on the same page.

Or a college game, that's a fact.
Or a high school game, that's a fact.
Apparently though, he's wons lots of games as a GM, a color commentator, and a spot-up shooter.
Get me MJax, get Patrick sitting on the bench next to him. Teach Tyson that turn around J and how to hit hooks over the ghost of Hibbert. Who better to mentor our boy Cole?
A Knick Prez, A Knick coach, A Knick assistant coach.
Regime/culture change starts now.

I agree and that is what meshing is all about IMO, being on the same page. The next week should be interesting.
dont need a retread

that just got fired for having issues with management. if mark jackson wont listen to jerry west(rumors are he wouldn't), he's definitely not going to listen to phil jackson. no thanks.
