Because his ppg you exaggerated to suit your purpose, he averaged 27. The minutes is an excuse because durant played more TOTAL minutes, while playing the same 38 per game.
Your being very misleading using 38.7 as if durant wasnt 38.5....the minutes per means nothing anyway when melo did not play the most minutes in the regular season.
the bottom line is simple...one player was ridiculous while playing MORE MINUTES.
knickscity wrote:Durant and Melo are only a little over 100 minutes a part for total minutes. Durant played 81 games, Melo 77. it is, which is why I wouldnt say one played more ...when they didnt.....but their performances are miles apart with similar minutes played.

I actually didn't look..I thought it was 27.8 per..not 27.4 per...0.6 pts per, my goodness...But still..27 and 8 not done since Shaq...How is it misleading if I said initially that Melo averaged the most minutes per in the league???..What is misleading if he is doing 38.7 and the next guy is doing 38.5???
Felton, gun toting, prob had the worst year in his career last year...Shump has his worst year as a Knick last year...Chandler,"DYOP", who complained last playoffs that no one gave him help with the offensive juggernaut Hibbert, had his worst year as a Knick last year...JR for 3/4 of the year had his worst year as a Knick last year...The issue of the Knicks not getting into the playoffs couldn't be their collective play..No it can't be that..It must be the guy calling for the ball at the elbow, the guy who is getting ready to go ISO, the guy who is giving you 27 and 8, yeah him, he must reason why we didn't make the playoffs!!!

The misleading is standing on this premise that no one has done what Melo has and he played the most minutes....they are both false.

I blame them all to be honest, but perhaps when the star player announces after a 54 win season he plans to test free agency perhaps his teammates went into IDGAF mode.
Interesting how all of them awful players suddenly woke up when Phil got signed.

Do you honestly believe 27 and 8 is better than 26 and 12? But in any case, it goes to show that scoring and rebounding most of your own misses is not enough.
at least with Love he's been injured alot so he actually hasnt played, but Melo has and still was unable.

March 7th was when Phil was reportedly offered the job, and this was amidst the Knicks being on a seven game losing streak
http://nba.si.com/2014/03/07/phil-jackso...
As a matter of fact the Knicks lost the first game Stat and JR started anyway, so no, that didnt make a difference....they were due to win a few since they were playing the worst teams in the NBA minus Indy which was Phil's first official looked on game.
but dont take MY word for it......

Not true, Durant led the league in minutes played and actually played every game except one which Melo missed five. Both players averaged 38 minutes per game.
Durant also posted a near 30 in PER which led the league as the most efficient player, so this "ton of minutes" excuse doesnt fly.
Melo's efficiency dropped due to the way he plays not from being on the court too much.
Cant even use the team mate excuse either...Durant's best team mate missed nearly half the season, and thats combined with having a center who averages 3 points a game and shooting guard averaging 6 in the starting lineup.
Melo and Jimmy Butler led the league at 38.7 mins per game ...Durant came in at 38.5 mins per..So Durant who is a better player than Melo played half the season without Westbrook??..So half the season, Durant had real help while Melo had JR??...So you point out two players Durant had to play with that can't score...Tell who who on our squad is better than Reggie Jackson, Ibaka and Westbrook for half the season??..Amare was playing 20 mins a night when he did play...
Whatever, Melo sucks...28 and 8 sucks..
Still an excuse, but who's talking minutes per game Durant was only .2 off that mark anyway....Durant led the league in minutes PLAYED and certainly would have played the 82nd game if the Thunder hadnt already locked up positioning. No, 28 and 8 doesnt suck, but it certainly doesnt eclipse 32/7/5 on 50% shooting and a near 30 PER.
But it is safe to say all 28/8's arent the same....some help their teams win by doing more.
It's still 28 and 8, haven't been done since Shaq...It's something because no one else is doing it...
shaq did it on 58fg% with 3.4 assists per game.
Melo is doing it shooting 46%..40% from the 3, playing with scrubs, not top 50 HOF type players..

no he did it on 45.2% shooting which is below average, and shot the ball 21.3 times. 27.4 ppg is not 28 ppg either. when you score 27.4 points but need 21.3 times to do it that is a recipe for underachievement. and this has been the story of carmelo's career... underachieving .

I dont think anyone has missed the playoffs while doing it either, but why focus on that when other are doing more?Shaq was playing with Kobe..Give Melo a Kobe caliber player in his prime and let's see him miss the playoffs..Your argument judges the rest of the Knicks to be on par with the old Lakers and OKC..
couldnt' agree with you more holfresh. it's amazing to me the way people try and find new ways to shit on melo. 28&8 is 28&8 no matter how you cut it and like you said, melo did it playing with a group of average players, not another hall of famer like shaq did. another day, another new way to dismiss anything melo has done.
the team missed the playoffs. when you miss the playoffs the biggest name should take the most heat, stand up and be accountable for a failed season. he doesn't have the stones to do that. fortunately we will be seeing the franchise undergo a culture change.
