Our last second "don't know what to do so let's dump it to Melo and hope for the best" occurrences that Phil pointed out and Melo himself even alluded to. Also, the fact that down the stretch our only play was to just give him the ball over and over again and hope it works out.I don't think ISO itself is bad but we've all seen how over reliance on it can be a bad thing.
Well that's a function of the players isn't it...When people refer to ISO around here, they are often referring to the style of play Woody likes, which isn't necessarily true true or the style of play Melo likes...That is what I garner from the ISO ball reference...
It's a function of everyone. Every time people here complained about iso it was when we made it our only strategy late in games or sometimes throughout the entire game. 2 seasons ago when we moved the ball and Melo isolated himself every once in a while, no one complained because iso's are part of the game.
Two seasons ago, players were hitting their 3 point shots...Two seasons ago, Felton did a better job getting into the lane and dishing...Two seasons ago Kidd did a good job making the extra pass...Woody's approach didn't change, the results changed ..When results changed, players took the easy way out, Melo..But I doubt very much it was Woody's game plan to dump it to Melo when the shot clock is running out..
With regards to the end of game plays, I would rather Melo take that shot than any other Knick...KD, Bron, Kobe, etc gets that ball 95% of the times in those situations...

See this is where the problem occurs. I'm not saying I don't want Melo taking the last shot. It's the predictable "give Melo the ball and let him create" that I have problems with cause it didn't work all damn season. Let him take the shot cause he can certainly make it but give him a screen or something. Have the other players move.
And I too don't think Woodson told them to give it to Melo when all else fails.

couldnt' agree with you more holfresh. it's amazing to me the way people try and find new ways to shit on melo. 28&8 is 28&8 no matter how you cut it and like you said, melo did it playing with a group of average players, not another hall of famer like shaq did. another day, another new way to dismiss anything melo has done.

Melo and Jimmy Butler led the league at 38.7 mins per game ...Durant came in at 38.5 mins per..So Durant who is a better player than Melo played half the season without Westbrook??..So half the season, Durant had real help while Melo had JR??...So you point out two players Durant had to play with that can't score...Tell who who on our squad is better than Reggie Jackson, Ibaka and Westbrook for half the season??..Amare was playing 20 mins a night when he did play...

Still an excuse, but who's talking minutes per game Durant was only .2 off that mark anyway....Durant led the league in minutes PLAYED and certainly would have played the 82nd game if the Thunder hadnt already locked up positioning.No, 28 and 8 doesnt suck, but it certainly doesnt eclipse 32/7/5 on 50% shooting and a near 30 PER.
But it is safe to say all 28/8's arent the same....some help their teams win by doing more.

He was logging the most minutes in the NBA..He was worn down by the 4th quarter..I think they show a stat of his 4 quarter shooting percentage this season was much lower than in any other season yet his overall shooting was roughly the same...

Durant also posted a near 30 in PER which led the league as the most efficient player, so this "ton of minutes" excuse doesnt fly.
Melo's efficiency dropped due to the way he plays not from being on the court too much.
Cant even use the team mate excuse either...Durant's best team mate missed nearly half the season, and thats combined with having a center who averages 3 points a game and shooting guard averaging 6 in the starting lineup.

This is the first time he has missed the playoffs in 11 years of playing basketball...You said that with those numbers all others(Shaq was the last guy) couldn't make the playoffs..The last guy that did it was playing with Kobe, do u think that makes a bit of difference???..
