Knicks · My bet is Kerr takes GS job. (page 2)

The coach with the least experience and the most media connections getting all of the buzz, what a shocker. Just goes to show you how the media has created the sheep herding mentality in this country. Now, all of the owners are lining up to bid on deck chairs on the titanic. Really, Jackson isn't even the last coach who will be fired this year, what's the rush. What ever Kerr chooses, good for him.

A complete joke, kerr been avaible before they even considered mark jack

He has been reluctant to coach before now.

When that happens everything else falls into place.

I do think there is some truth to your post.

If Kerr turns away from Phil -- I do think he'll fear a run of bad Karma for turning his back on his mentor -- a mentor who believed in him before anyone else.

I know they made the playoffs and all but if you look at the Knicks objectively and see the talent you will see that the Knicks are on par with GS. The Knicks had a down year last year and this is on the players and coach for not being ready. The weakest position on the Knicks was and still is PG a decent PG and the Knicks are in better shape. If Woodson uses Amare better during the course of the year the Knicks would have won more.

What does GS have over the Knicks? Curry = Melo, Thompson is good but I can see night where JR is on par. Lee is a plus but if Amare plays the way he did towards the end of the season I don't see much of an advantage there. If you watched the Knicks this year you will see that there was things missing and that was a system and a PG. that's why I don't think the GS job is all that much better than the Knicks besides on the Knicks Kerr only has to increase on 37 wins on GS he has to win 50+.

ok, so objectively speaking.. what talent do the knicks have that is on par with curry, thompson, iggy, or lee? and lets not use the "if he was healthy" statements, because if so, then we have to include bogut..

Curry > Melo
Klay >>>>> JR
Lee >>> Amare

Bogut > Tyson
Dray Green > other stiffs

pretty much how I see it... although bogut is a walking injury... might give tyson a slight and I mean slight nod, but if healthy have to take bogut... but again.. he never is..

VMart - please do not judge the Knicks future in a vacuum. The only team in the east we are better than is the Sixers.

Toronto, New Jersey and Washington have left us gasping for air.

Catching up is never easy. Where is that LEGIT (dominant Damian Lillard type) point guard coming from?

excellent post... and if we are going to start judging the knicks on future "if's" then we have to apply the same thing to all teams..

I think Kerr should choose NY. If he's making this big of a career move then i'd want the support of the best coach who can help mentor me. Also Kerr is Phil's hand picked apprentice, it's of utmost importance to Phil that Kerr is successful. He'll give him everything he needs in terms of support to help him succeed.

I wouldn't make the decision based solely on the roster. He's only got to worry about the NY roster for one season. After that they can rebuild the team to his liking and in GS they pretty much are stuck with the group they have which may not be able to get much better than they are. To be honest if Melo doesn't return then the rebuild is already under way. GS is in somewhat of a win now mode in terms of expectations. Here in NY he can grow into the job and basically have a free pass for a few years as they rebuild the roster. Basically Kerr has to hit the ground running in GS and in NY he can have a more natural grace period as he learns the job.

Exactly Kerr is going to become coach of the Knicks

I agree. Expectations are low here for the first time in ages.

GS is another ankle injury away from the lottery.

Still think he takes that job.

I think GS are over rated- Iggy will start to decline soon, and he's the type of player who will find it hard to contribute without his athleticism. Bogut is always, ALWAYS injured. Plus they've got payday s coming up which will lead to some difficult decisions for them.

I don't think they are overrated. I just don't think they are good enough to beat teams like the clippers.

I think Klay Thompson is overrated though

Kerr has proven NOTHING as coach. He is a complete unknown commodity.
I remember him bringing in Shaq to the Suns as GM and he messed up their whole offensive flow.

Kerr would be an idiot not to take the NY job.
In NY he has Phil Jackson to guide him, elsewhere not so much.

I personally would rather have Mark Jackson, at least he is a KNOWN commodity.
Just because Hornacek, Mark Jackson, & J.Kidd were good first year coaches does not mean Kerr will be too.

The point is that there have been so many first timers recently that have had much success.

There is no reason to think that we would do better with a retread with baggage.

I tend to think that we would do better with a first timer with no baggage.

So you want Mark Jackson to clash with Phil? Nevermind the fact that he is not one of Phil's guys
nyvector16 @ 5/7/2014 6:30 PM
If we are targeting possible coaches that have some kind of established relationship with Phil Jackson, why not wait to see if Derek Fisher becomes available. I would rather have Fisher than Kerr.

Kerr to me does not have the Point Guard bonafides that translate into a good strategist.
He was only a spot-up shooter who averaged 1.8 Assists per game for his whole career.

The guys who have done well as first year coaches are Point Guards who have a general's mentality..

Maybe Phil has a big enough ego that he believes he can make anyone into one of his guys. Isn't that a better feat, anyway?
You can pass anything with rubber stamp yes men. It takes a huge persona and stones to mold people into what kind of winners you want them to be.

Jeez, I just used pass and stones in the same thought sequence.

with that said, gsw would be stupid to go with a rookie coach when they are trying to win a title.

Is Jax out because West wants to micromanage? At least with Phil, Kerr has a guy that he has a relationship with and knows he will be supported and defended. Not sure what the situation is in golden state. I don't think Jax or the Warriors look good right now.

Papabear Says

The Problem with the Zen Master will be he gets all the credit and Kerr is his little yes man and that even goes for the players. The credit will go to Phil Jackson and not the players. Phil is bigger than life and that my be a reason for Melo to bounce.

gunsnewing @ 5/7/2014 6:36 PM
Kerr has won championships with Phil. He already knows what it takes to win using Phil's system and principles. As much as I like Mark Jackson and love JVG, Thibs Vogel etc. They will clash with Phil. Completely different approach Kerr works because Phil can mold him. Kerr's never coached with his own system. Phil made it clear he doesn't want to hire a retread so if not Kerr it's going to be one of the guys in his circle. Fisher, Cleamons, Rambis, Harper etc
nixluva @ 5/7/2014 6:41 PM
Guys we have to keep in mind the Zen way is not to have strife and animosity, but to have harmony in the team. Phil will be able to build a group under him that is totally in synch and into his philosophy. I don't think that means MJax has no shot, but I think he's gonna be down the list behind other guys Phil knows. I think Derek Fisher will become an option if Kerr doesn't take the job. Phil can't coach, so he will want someone that is close to his line of thinking and that he can further mold into a clone of himself.

No Kerr will be a yes man for Phil. He won't be that way with GS he will be his own man.
