No way Boston does that. They just blew up their team and traded two beloved players in Pierce and Garnett so they can do a full rebuild from the ground up; they're not going to blow up that plan because 30-year old Melo is available.

That is the difference smart teams will add Melo after they already have young pieces in place. We never have young pieces in place or we trade them for players like mcdyess Marbury and melo

They traded the farm to get KG and Ray Allen to pair with Rondo......who is to say they wouldn't trade the farm again for Melo and possibly someone else. They have the chips to do so.

That's wrong. The Celtics got Allen before they traded for KG. It was more than a month after the fact that they made the 2nd deal with the Wolves; to be exact, Ray Allen was traded on June 28th and KG was traded on July 31st.

It seems like Ainge is using the same formula.
He should use the same formula and we should look to indulge him. The picks won't be good enough to land the gold standard of the draft (Embiid, Parker and Wiggins) but I'd be more than comfortable with the draft's 2nd tier prospects (Exum, Randle, Smart, Vonleh, etc.)

They are projected to have about $15 million in cap space this offseason, so I'd look to essentially dump Melo's salary on them for the picks. The way I see it, we'd do Keith Bogans ($5 million, non-guaranteed), Joel Anthony ($3 million, expirer), the 5th pick and 17th pick for Melo. That move would keep us on pace to maximize our 2015 cap space.
If they want us to take on Gerald Gerald and/or Gerald Wallace, I'd need at least a pick and a prospect or two more picks. There is no reason for us to take on those contracts otherwise.

Is Rondo interested in playing with Melo? Or anyone, at this stage in his IR-strewn career? That would leave Melo playing 50-60 games a season with ...Brandon Bass and Jeff Green.

And ... that was then, this is now. Picks are viewed differently now, teams are far more cautious after watching the car wreck pick trades.

They traded picks and youth only after they missed out on the Durant/Oden lottery. And they had Rondo AND Pierce already on the team, not just Rondo. And Allen and Garnett were better players than Melo.

Rondo's interested in winning and Melo can help him do that. I'm not sure if Rondo necessarily likes Melo but it was rumored this past offseason and season that Melo wanted to play with Rondo. At least we know that we'd be able to move him to Boston in a sign and trade.
On the flip side, Rondo's knee may be questionable but certainly not more questionable than Derrick Rose, who is a major reason why Melo is interested in Chicago. With a healthy Rondo, who has shown that he can play at a high level without having his full athleticism, and Melo, the Celtics are only a piece away from contending.

Well, they are projected to miss out on Wiggins, Parker and Embiid who are the Oden/Durant of this years draft. So why wouldn't they trade the pick?
I agree that Garnett was a better player than Melo but Ray Allen definitely wasn't IMO. In any case, it's a game of fits (not individual game), which Melo and Rondo should do exceedingly well. And when you have those two, how much more do you really need to build a contender?
