Damn, I just looked it up: we did. Blazers, Kings, Pacers, Knicks, and Warriors picked Mychal Thompson, Phil Ford, Rick Robey, Micheal Ray Richardson, and Purvis Short before Boston took Bird at 6. That's right up there with taking Bowie over Jordan.

Why'd they change the rule?

The eddy Curry and Mcdyess tardes were beyond stupid. I mean we really helped out the Bulls bigtime and Eddy Curry helped himself to McDonalds his whoel tenure here. McDyess was already in the middle of his decline after major knee surgery. Of course teh knicks still havent learned from their mistakes and continue to give away 1st round picks for bad contracts and worse results

Scott Layden traded for Antonio McDyess, not Isiah Thomas. And the Keith Van Horn trade brought Tim Thomas AND Nazr Mohammed, the guy who was a walking double-double whenever it wasn't Ramaadan.

Truth be told, I always liked McDyess but thought it was ridiculous that we had to give up Camby, as well as the pick. He was worth a gamble but not at those stakes. Same with Eddy Curry, even though I was very concerned about him and his heart (literal and figurative), not to mention whether he'd fit the roster (which he didn't). We were a drive-and-kick team; a bunch of shooters and should not have acquired a guy that was going to clog the lane like Curry did.

I don't think they did, I'm pretty sure that's still the rule. You just don't see guys going back to school after they've been drafted.

I don't think they did, I'm pretty sure that's still the rule. You just don't see guys going back to school after they've been drafted.

Bird's original college class had graduated so he was eligible for being drafted (78 draft wiki). Sounds a bit like international guys when they reach a certain age they are eligible to be drafted.

My guess is the Knicks don't get love unless it is in free agency in 2015.

First- I don't think we have anything worth offering to Minny that would get us Love.

Second - I don't think adding Love to our roster does enough to fix our problems. We need a PG - not another scoring big.

Now, if the question were swapping Melo for Love and trying to build around him moving forward - his youth would be his greatest asset as it gives us time to retool.

Kevin Love IS a PG. He's 6"10' and so teams will play him at the 4 spot but the guy can easily run your offense out of the post/high-post.
