Algeria was splendid today. Sucks that they ran into Germany.

very intense match.

algeria impressing more than expected.

keepers making a difference here...neuer taking risks but he likes to come out as he has some skill for one.

something tells me the germans will still pull out a with the win.

OMG - the Allegerian team totally earned all the respect they can get. Such an intense game. They sent toe to toe with Mount Germany and made them look ordinary. Uber Respekk

Great game by Algeria!!! And not the only one this cup!!!
Neuer is the best keeper of the world!!!
Tough one for Germany... and France will not be easier!!!
Still think the team will play better in the quarter final!!!

I'm not impressed by Argentina but with Messi on the field, anything can happen.

I am in Germany and got to watch that game. Germany outplayed them but their goalie really helped keep them in the game. I think Germany had a 3:1+ advantage of shots on goal and
they had some great looks but imo really missed some give me's. That goal the scored first in OT was incredible. What a tight finish even with the 2nd goal. Was glad it ended.
Anyone can win on any day though, of course.
Germany is fun to watch on offense, they are like you think Germans would be - methodical, structured, disciplined, etc. Their defense caused America fits and America
almost tied at the end (missed that open net on the left side!) I was sort of neutral that game, wanted both to advance, luckily they did.

I'm not much of a soccer fan but will watch the world cup and I like both Germany and America's chances.
Germany seems extremely solid on defense, a little weak on the over the top long passes but their goalie was great coming to meet them. I will watch America's game tonight,
hopefully they are a bit more fluid on offense than when they played Germany.

This sucks. I am so nervous watching this game.
gunsnewing @ 7/1/2014 5:45 PM
Don't think USA will win penalties. They got to end it here or extra time
H1AND1 @ 7/1/2014 5:46 PM
Howard has been amazing so far.

If not for TH, Belgium would be up 12-1

Yeah. Tim Howard is the man. This sucks.

he's a great goalie. anticipation and leg saves are top notch.

dk7th @ 7/1/2014 6:43 PM
that first goal is on the midfielder who fell on the collision. terrible mistake cost them the game.
Silverfuel @ 7/1/2014 6:45 PM
That free kick set piece that Dempsey missed was the best chance we had to tie it up and go to PKs. He should have made that.
meloshouldgo @ 7/1/2014 7:07 PM
The rest of the team wad invisivle.
VDesai @ 7/1/2014 7:27 PM
Wondolowski, who's arguably the best goal scorer in MLS and had a great summer in the Gold Cup scoring for the USA, had a great look in the 90th minute. He puts that ball away the majority of the time. If he finishes that we steal the game, but it just wasn't to be.

The set piece that we set up that Dempsey didn't score on was the greatest piece of creativity the US team has ever put together....again Dempsey when he gets the first touch, free in the box almost always finishes, but he just couldn't do it.

Was a whale of game and a great effort by the USA. Ultimately they couldn't handle the athletes Belgium had upfront. Lukaku dominated them coming in as a sub. As time goes on better and better American athletes will start playing soccer and we won't get outclassed by Belgian athletes, but unfortunately thats what happened today. Still we're light years from where we were 10, 15, 20 years ago.

IronWillGiroud @ 7/1/2014 7:41 PM
really good cup or us (USA),

you can't be mad about taking belgium to the ropes, slapping portugal around like a sloppy bitch and giving it to ghana like it was a gypsy whore,

really good world cup and we proved we belong in the knock out stages of the cup,

in 2018, we're expected to get out of the group

gunsnewing @ 7/1/2014 8:03 PM
I wonder how far USA goes without Howard. It's a process but they've come a long way since 94. Kids need to keep playing. Need to develop American stars. Need MLS to step up their game to keep people interested for 4yrs
djsunyc @ 7/1/2014 8:06 PM
painful loss but the US is fundamentally unsound. they can't keep possession or execute good through balls. howard saves them time and time again. we just don't have the "talent" to compete at the higher levels. at some point, soccer has to be able to steal kids from the nba + nfl and mlb if it really wants to find the talent. terribly frustrating to watch bad pass after bad pass. we didn't deserve to win.
