Papabear Says
Amar’e Stoudemire will decline the early termination option in his contract and return to the New York Knicks, reports Comcast Sportsnet’s Chris Haynes.
Like Carmelo Anthony, Stoudemire has the option to opt out of his five-year, $100 million contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer. By opting in, the Knicks center stands to earn $23.4 million.
Stoudemire recently spoke about his goals for the 2014-15 season, telling the New York Post that he wants “to get back to that level [of] just three short years ago” when he was averaging 25.3 PPG.
“For sure, my goal is to return to the All-Star Game and compete or a championship in the postseason.’’
Stoudemire averaged a career-low 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game with the Knicks last year.
SI
Sacrificing free agency to help the Knicks clear cap space in 2015. What a guy

I could see him going to Miami for minimum when he his deal expires. Would love the irony of seeing him backup Bosh

It'd be terrible if everyone kept going to Miami for their last ditch effort at getting a ring but I'd somehow find it entertaining

Yeah, Amar'e must be hella embarrassed at how his career ended up. He was far from a modest man during his heyday and regularly talked shit about his contemporaries e.g. Pau Gasol (calling him soft), Al Horford, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, etc. Now, all of those guys are better than he is and will likely have to join one of their teams if he wants to win.

Why not? Who is going to pay him anything more than that, considering the fact that his knees/body are un-insurable?
How is anyone surprised? Who's passing up on 23 mill?

He's a very proud person, I think he'd rather bow out or play in Israel than accept a minimum nba contract. I can see teams offering him maybe the mini-mle, but not much more.

Yeah. Amare is cool. He also says what we all want to hear. If he opted out we could have grabbed Lebron.
I'd be nothing but ecstatic if he can return to form!!!

I remember when Karl Malone and company tried that and it failed. Miami is over everyone. Time to find another dynasty.
