Knicks · Spurs PG Mills on Knicks’ radar (page 1)

If you loved Felton, you'll be happy to know that guard affectionately known as "little fat @ss" is being targeted by the Knicks. His defense is suspect, but the dude can shoot and penetrate.

http://nypost.com/2014/06/16/spurs-pg-mi...

The question is how high Mills’ market value has climbed and whether the Spurs are ready to pay a significant amount for a backup point guard. That’s usually not their style, with small-market owner Peter Holt one of the leaders of the 2011 lockout.

Mills opted into his contract last offseason and was paid just $1.3 million. Now he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Knicks are looking to appropriate their $3.2 million mini mid-level on a starting point guard to supplant the ineffective Raymond Felton.

I think hes a guy who has earned a 5-6mm per contract.

Coincidentally, that's exactly why Felton's wife filed for divorce.

“New York is definitely a city Mills would want to play in,’’ the source said. “He has that personality.’’

Sounds like a good agent spreading some words to get it on the Hoopshype network and create a market. It helps to raise interest.

Just read the Berman article...Glad to know they're at least looking at him...Was thinking the same thing when he was going nuts that last game -- not sure if it's even possible to get him for $3-3.5mm anymore. Who knows, though. You try, definitely. Collison never got that kind of money, even off his standout play backing up/filling in for an injured Chris Paul in New Orleans a few yrs ago. We'll have to see...

I was very surprised when Breen mentioned a weight problem with Mills on the air the other night; now reading Pop called him 'little fat ass.' I knew he was battling an injury last year -- never thought there was any kind of a weight issue. 2 positives about Mills that I see: (1) we knew he can score but he can also move the ball very well and I thought his man to man D was great the other night. Right up in Chalmers' grill, waving his hands all over, etc. He can play.

If it's not meant to be though -- you figure there will be some money for Cole Aldrich then. Maybe we use the funds on Cole then focus on Collison, a PG late in the draft we can just get for cash (Burton, Russ Smith?) and/or focus on one of the standout DL PG from this past season (Seth Curry, Kalin Lucas, Darius Morris?). There will still be some decent options to upgrade the position.

Bonn1997 @ 6/17/2014 6:33 AM
I can't imagine him being available for the mini MLE.

Yeah definitely sounds like a article where the source is definitely the agent.

Patty Mills doesn't strike me as a guy that is chasing money. He could probably make more money overseas. He also probably could have signed for more elsewhere instead of staying with San Antonio.

I think San Antonio would resign him but they have youth in the wings that could step in to replace Patty off the bench. I think if Phil targets Patty and they insure him of an expanded role with what we are trying to build I think he would jump at that mini midlevel. The dude is a winner imho

SupremeCommander @ 6/17/2014 10:42 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if he left SA for a bigger role elewhere on a on eor two year deal - so he can cash in big itme next time

I think $5M is the most he'll get. There are still enough questions surrounding his playmaking ability that I can't see a team paying him more thanvtge full mid-level.

Barrea is the guy I wanted to compare Mills too. But I hesitated because Barre's is not really a starter l. If barrea isn't a starter, what does that say about Mills? They're close to the same height and have the same strengths and weaknesses. What separate s Mills?

I agree, while they would be key contributors
Though Barea played excellent that year and was one of the key reasons they did win that year and he did START some games that year or/and finished most games
Another player comparable would be DJ Augistine, is he a 1 year wonder with the Bulls or not?

As STARTER material,
I view Darren Collison, maybe even Livingston as the best possible candidates that could be realistic in terms of our ability to pay
Other options would be Sessions who has been under rated his entire career
Bayless had a bad season but could be a realistic option as well, everything other would likely be asking for 2 much money or probably better off getting in the draft *though I would go this route for the future regardless*

A team who could really benefit from him and be used with MCW is Philly. If IU was Philly with 7 draft picks in a great draft Noel and MCW they need an NBA caliber 3 pt shooter who moves and handles the ball--they can ply 2 Pgs or 3 guards etc.. but their a team that has the cash and the space.

Barea looked awfully good on that Maverick's championship team. Also, Barea has been solid for most of his career. Horrible is probably too strong of a description.

True, but JJ was also more of playmaker on those Dallas teams. Mills is superstar efficient, but how many of those shots did he have to create on his own? How realistic is it to expect a sub 6'0" to continue that level of shooting in a team with fewer inside threats and fewer shot creators?
