Knicks · Source: Chicago Is Most Likely Option for Melo (page 1)

It looks like you're going to get your wish Briggs.

Assuming he follows through with his plan to opt-out by Monday’s deadline, Anthony could either sign with the Bulls for less money than he is due to make with the Knicks ($129 million over five years) or be moved to Chicago in a sign-and-trade deal.

“He is looking to leave if one of the teams he likes can get a deal done with New York,” the source said. “He knows New York is not good enough the way they are currently constructed. Melo wants to win now. He will move if he feels that team can win.”

The source added that Chicago was the most likely landing spot “unless Houston can come up with something other than Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik.”

As has been reported, Chicago would need to amnesty Carlos Boozer and get rid of Taj Gibson and at least one more player in order to clear room for Anthony.

As ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported, if the Knicks believe Anthony’s departure is inevitable, they could get Boozer and the No. 16 or 19 pick in Thursday’s Draft in exchange for Anthony. The Bulls would have to make the pick and then trade that player to the Knicks in July, Windhorst reported.

Boozer and a mid round picks is better than nothing although we still should have taken care if this at teh deadline. Im glad Phil is trying to get a few picks

We can only hope it's to Chicago for Boozer/rights to Mirotic/#16 and #19 (players drafted for us and traded to us post 7/1).

That would be fair --- if we could move Raymond or JR in the deal and not take back anything long term -- that might even be better.

I think Chicago is a possibilty because Phil / Paxson have some history and personally I'm not sold on Phil truly believing in Melo as "the" piece to build around.

I think Melo is a great second guy. He is definetly the better scorer but he need to play with someone who might have overall great skills who can also akke the players round better
toodarkmark @ 6/20/2014 2:04 PM
Why can't we get the #16, take Tyler Ennis, and then get Taj Gibson and Carlos Boozer? 24.8 Chicago to prob around that area for Melo. Sounds like a good trade.

other than noah who would that be on the bulls? and how does the rose/anthony tandem work in terms of number of shots and usage? weird. and then there's the bulls defense taking a huge hit with gibson gone.

Yeah, I've read that Chi may have to trade Gibson anyway. It'd be like the old day when we had 50 power fowards on the roster, but at least they wouldn't be undersized.

yeah i know but still-- how do you address those issues?

I guess I don't quite get the above and perhaps Chi cap situation; not sure why they need to get rid of Taj. And I don't think they want to, he would be a core piece for them.

Noah, Taj, Melo, Butler, Rose. That's an impressive lineup.

fishmike @ 6/20/2014 2:25 PM
Im willing. Taj, Dunleavey (at $3mm love him), Tony Snell, Boozer and both #1s for Melo, Felton and JR
BRIGGS @ 6/20/2014 2:27 PM
I think it's fair if the Knicks get both picks. It seems like they believe Hairston can take over some scoring capabilities.
BRIGGS @ 6/20/2014 2:32 PM
If we do get the two picks if Nurkic falls and we cna get Nurkic and one of either Hairston or Warren--we'd do well. I think Nurkic is going to be very good--he's very very skilled albeit 19 with a nasty streak and 280 pounds with agility. If we are going to do a semi rebuild getting a 280 pd skill C and a wing with 20+ pt capabilities would be fantastic
NYKBocker @ 6/20/2014 2:32 PM
If Chicago then I want Boozer(contract filler), Dunleavy, Butler, Mirotic, both 2014 1st Round Picks for Melo.

The Layden years, "forwardsRus".

Because we shouldn't be trying to win, if we deal Melo. We would need to put forth the worst team we possibly can to maximize our 2015 pick. In lieu of Gibson, I'd want , Hinrich (who I'd look to deal for a 2nd or as part of a package for Lin and Asik), Mirotic, Butler and Fredette who may not be much to start but will get better over time. To sweeten the deal for the Bulls, I'd be willing to send them Iman Shumpert, Jeremy Tyler and Cole Aldrich.

I haven't seen a mock draft with Nurkic higher than 20. NBADraft.net has him going 27th. If we get him, we should trade down from 19th and get additional picks in the process. I don't want us to continue reaching our players and wasting the value of the picks.

cant and wont happen. Are you going to tell Amare and Shumpert not to play hard in their contract years? It will be like the Lebron draft all over again. Knicks will fight and scratch to 35ish wins so they can pick the next Mike Sweetney

That's exactly why I'd trade Shumpert in the Melo deal to the Bulls and move Amare to Boston for Gerald Wallace's garbage contract, Brandon Bass and a $6 million trade exception. Bass could be moved for 2nd rounders and an expirer and we could be shitty. If we're bad enough, we might not have to worry about picking the next Mike Sweetney.

yellowboy90 @ 6/20/2014 3:00 PM
People expecting a great haul do not understand that Chicago has all the leverage if Melo wants to leave. They do not have to get rid of Gibson. They do not have to even trade Boozer. All they have to say is take Boozer, Dunleavy, and a pick or two. You either take what we want or we amnesty Boozer and work around you.
