Sources told ESPN.com that Knicks officials, while not willing to trumpet it publicly with free agency fast approaching, are quietly confident about their odds of retaining Anthony thanks in part to the idea that new team president Phil Jackson and the high-scoring forward have "connected" to some degree.

Furthermore, one source close to the process told ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne that Jackson is planning to make a determined attempt to try to recruit his former Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol to replace the freshly traded Tyson Chandler alongside Anthony on the Knicks' front line, despite the fact New York is limited to offering Gasol less than $4 million for next season.

Then after that we will with out a doubt target Marc Gasol in 2015 who would be great in the Triangle. Jose Calderon is Marc's best friend, Paul obviously is his brother. Looks like the Calderon trade has many levels to it.

I would be happy with this.

Sounds like the makings of a poor man's 2000s Hawks.
gunsnewing @ 6/28/2014 9:57 AM
I don't mind Gasol. Hope he can entice is brother Marc to come here.

I see the media referring to Pau as a Center now. As far as I know he's always been a PF. Next to Bynum or Howard

At $4mm per year, I don't see how anyone could not like this move

It will be very hard to pull off though, Lakers can offer him as much as they are willing to pay him.

Maybe is Melo for gasol and Nash future picks. No Randle

I think Melo would have to opt in to make that work, and Kobe loves Gasol. He is going to pitch him hard to stay

So Melo is gonna walk and we get nothing?

That doesn't really makes sense for Pau.

Phil- "Hey pau come take less money to play on a team trying to get a lottery pick"

I think anyone pitching Melo has to be able to sign him w/o help. LA can do that and still sign Gasol giving them their big 3. So can Houston and Dallas. Chicago has work to do and really their package in a S&T is weak.

because Gasol will be 40 by the time we're a good team?

Replacing Felton with Calderon and adding Gasol if he gave 15-8 makes this a 48-50win team(with Melo coming back).

Maybe so Maybe not. When I say Charlotte play us last season they have our number. They are fast and can shoot at times. In a league when players are getting faster and younger we need some young legs along with experience to beat some of these young teams.

We sucked last year because we had the worst guard play in the NBA and lacked consistency from any of our bigs, 2 things that Calderon and Gasol would fix.

GustavBahler @ 6/28/2014 1:59 PM
I like it. One more player to teach the triangle. We need good role players, smart role players, and Gasol is one of them. A little long in the tooth but still worth it IMO, especially if we get some more help in the frontcourt to spell Gasol. Cole is not the answer IMO and Odom and Stat cant be counted on for major minutes. Not for a full season and the playoffs, if we were to make them.
IronWillGiroud @ 6/28/2014 2:26 PM
paul gasol, is that marc's evil brother?
EnySpree @ 6/28/2014 2:59 PM
Could the Knicks trade Amare out to Gasol in a sign and trade? We could pay Gasol a more realistic number than 3 million per, maybe 5-6 mill per over 3 years.

I still care about Jeremy Tyler so I'm willing to ship Amare to keep Tyler a Knick as the primary reserve off the bench.

Kobe is going to need someone to play with. Amare is in a contract year and that superhero wannabe wants to try and get back into the all-star game. He would be back with his boy Nash and they can take showers together. Maybe the Lakers sign Deng and give Kareem Abdul Jabbar a call to play center. Dude is still in fantastic shape.

LOL, are we recreating the Spanish National team?

What if Phil gets p gasol to come here on a one year promising a nicer contract next year... I can see this happening. Also Phil can lure his brother in next year and Paul can finish his career next to his family there also very close to Jose caldron. Next years line up could look like gasol,Amare, melo,jr,caldron with a bench of Tyler, brags, early, thjr,Larkin, shump,Greek, odom(who I don't see making the team)can get in there too. That team can make a run if healthy. But the year after gasol, gasol, melo, thjr, caldron bench Tyler(resigned),amare vet min, early,Greek freak,Larkin,
Shump and jr I think will be traded they don't fit the chemistry Phil wants...plus I think the freak could turn out better then shump. That last team could go all the way
