I wiuldn't mind trading Prigs, but Nelson's defense sucks too. We need someone who can hold Steph Curry to 35 instead of the usual 50 he drops on us.He would still be an upgrade from prigs. Nelson would be coming off the bench so stopping Curry would mostly be on whoever is starting or the SG. Curry can go off on anyone,so I wouldn't use him as an example of why Nelson shouldn't be signed.
The problem is that we have possibly the worse PG defender in the league starting for us. We saw this storyline play out for last year. If Calderon is our starter, then we need someone who can pinch hit for him from time to time. Toronto had Lowry while Dallas had Ellis and Devin Harris. We need to handcuff Calderon to a defender.
Worse than Felton? Find that hard to believe. We don't have a lot of cap space this season, I don't know who is out there who fits the bill. Would rather have a backup PG who isn't allergic to the rim. At least we would get that with Nelson.

Yeah, even worse than Felton.

On the perimeter, Felton has been an average defender for a point guard as measured by ESPN's Real Plus-Minus (-1.2 points per 100 possessions). That makes him a major upgrade on Calderon, one of the league's worst defenders by the same measure (-3.6 points per 100 possessions).
His defensive stats on 82games don't do him any favors either. Nelson has just been waived, so his signing would be low risk. But he doesn't address our biggest weakness at the position.

Wow, not good, not good at all. Probably means that Phil isn't done yet, not sure how he will make it happen.
Since you have insider do you think you could post that article about the Knicks being the worst spenders? Curious to see how they break it down.
