On defense everyone can guard their man...Josh and Sam would clean up a lot of mistakes. Rebounding would improve. A lot of capable passers, cutters and finishers.

He signed a 4 yr/54 mil deal. So basically he has 3 yrs and 40.5 mil owed to him. Not sure I love the deal at those dollars, but if we lost Melo I think I'd be in on this deal. If we could trade Melo for Harden I'd definitely be in. Kings are probably offering Ben McLemore and Jason Thompson. What's a better offer for Detroit? I don't know.
But anyway my conclusion is I don't love how he pairs with Melo and if we signed Melo that's again a lot of $$ committed. If we move Melo I think he works a lot better and would be a great pair with someone like Harden.
As a talent he has always been intriguing, however not sure if he is a good fit in this offense, potentially alongside Melo, or with the expectations that come with being in NY. This is the type of player you could have expected the knicks to go after over the past 10-12 years. The talent is there but the mental makeup is not.

Looking at Detroit's 3-point FG% from last year, I'd say that they'd prefer McLemore over Shump. Josh is a good passer with a decent post game. I wouldn't be against the deal. I think I'd prefer the Knicks going after Greg Monroe instead.

No, his value is very low due to his long contract, you could probably get him just as a salary dump if you wanted him no need to give up Shump in this deal. His contract is to long for the risk. If he doesn't pan out then you would be stuck with him. If he only had 2 yrs left on his deal then he would be worth the shot.
I also don't think he took a year off, in the NBA you win with defense, ball movement and spacing. With Monroe, Drummond & Smith there is no spacing. All teams need to do is pack the paint and force Detroit to shoot 3s which doesn't maximize his skills.
Josh Smith needs to be in a situation where he can attack the rim constantly or his teammates make opponents pay by knocking down 3s. Problem is Josh Smith is a Forward yet his best abilities are what you want out of your power forward/center. So to accommodate him you need a center that can knock down long range shots. If he lines up at SF then the PF also needs to be able to knock down long range shots.

we're running the triangle next year remember? We wouldn't have to custom mke the roster around him. We just have to install guys into the system and press play. Passing and cutting....He's tailor made for the triangle because of his versatility.
Attacking the rim is Woodson ball...the triangle creates opportunities to slip to the basket on cuts and passing. You are describing ISO ball....we won't be doing that anymore

yeah but that doesn't describe Josh Smith. He's not over paid and he isn't one dimensional....that would be Tyson Chandler. Josh actually makes slightly less that Tyson. He also is a stat stuffer. He can score, rebound, pass, defend, put the ball on the floor, block shots, run the floor, jump out the gym, and he can shoot it out to the three if he needs to....so if you don't like him that's fine, but don't state things that aren't facts just to sound cool.
Only thing bad about Josh is bad is his attitude. He had some really good showings in Atlanta and he elevates his game in the playoffs. He still does have that attitude problem I will agree to that

Thing about Josh Smith is he kills teams with his chucking. Like a more well rounded JR Smith. When he's cold you have zero chance at winning and that happens quite a bit. That said he is a multidimensional player. Blocks shots, gets assists and can board really well.
