You knew it was coming. Cleveland said they were going to offer and there is no way Kyrie was going to turn down his first max deal.
Bonn1997 @ 7/1/2014 8:14 AM
What does Pepsi have to do with this? Was that just your clever title or is Pepsi sponsoring him or something? Sorry I'm a little slow this morning.
StarksEwing1 @ 7/1/2014 8:17 AM
Obviously Cleveland needed to keep their best player since lebron so cant knick them for the deal. he is still very young just needs to stay healthy
grillco @ 7/1/2014 8:18 AM
Why didn't he take less to help the team win. Selfish SOB!

YOu don't take a discount to live in Cleveland in the Winter!!!!

Bottom line is Gilbert is trying and they have a budding star in Wiggins, a healthy Bennett who might still live up to some potential as being the no. 1 pick, and some other nice pieces.

I'll give Gilbert Credit, while he has demonstrated some bad attitude after Lebron fried him (honestly, can you blame him??), he did try to make amends with Mike Brown whom he threw under the bus for Lebron by rehiring him. With it being a bad fit with Kyrie, he ate 4 years left on his deal and millions to bring in a new coach and assistant who brings in offensive schemes. Thats actually a good ownership move and maybe they can build on the pieces they have!

Bennett had health problems and his asthma got worse. YOung guy with lots of stress, it happens. If under control and in good shape he can perhaps make progress that speaks to a no. 1 pick!!

you sign a max deal to injury prone, ball dominating PG, although history has shown those type of players have never won a ring..

Lol they have been in the lottery evry yr since Kyrie got there..so what do you do, sign a guy max money who has not done one single thing to make your franchise better, has gotten 3 coaches fired, and his teammates thinks he shoots way way way too much.

Now i see why LBJ left, they don't have a clue

Can't argue with Cleveland being a joke, but I believe they did the right thing signing Kyrie to a max.

With that theory Carmelo should not settle for anything less than Max.

kyrie avg 60 games a yr since coming into the league for a lottery team, no player deserves max money if he doesn't make your team better. I would have offered 60 mill with multiple incentives.

That isn't a reflection of Kyrie or his game. One man doesn't make a team or organization.

Take Kyrie (and Wiggins) off that team, you think they are just as good or better?

I'm saying that Dan Gilberts comic sans fonted FU letter to LeBron is still in the back of many players minds. The City of Cleveland on it own is a tough sell. It's even tougher if ownership develops a reputation of being antagonistic to its players.
GustavBahler @ 7/1/2014 2:02 PM
Not easy attracting stars to Cleveland. Much better chance of doing that if another star is there already. I think Kyrie is amped to have Wiggins as a running mate and played into his decision to stay, sounded like he had one foot out the door.

I do wonder if that will make Waiters expendable? I heard they might be keeping him but they could trade him to upgrade the front court in case Bennett doesn't improve enough.

Nalod @ 7/1/2014 3:24 PM
Like Nalod said, its a players league and they Moved out Mike Brown at a great cost.
moved the GM.

and while not his greatest moment the Lebron snub was warrented to some extent. Lebron inflamed a lot of passions with his move.

Lets not forget its a business and Kyrie with his injuries understands an ACL costs him that contract. Don't think Jason Williams (Duke) does not have an effect on him. Not the motorcylcle but that anything can happen.

Bobby Hurley had a car accident that would have killed most men.

Livingston was Headed to Duke.

I think its not a stretch that if a man offers you 90 million and its the most he can give you, you over look some things.

The reality is they have a good young upcoming coach, a lot of young talent, and with Max money you don't have to jack up the stats to justify a max deal anymore.

Its bank.

knicks1248 @ 7/1/2014 4:57 PM
Kyrie a pg (who i love to play with in 2k14) makes no one better, you can't have a pg like that unless you can shift him to a 2g like AI.

The most he'll do is get you a quick playoff exit, and thats if he can play more than 70 games. Several players (teammates) were grumbling about his selfish ways. I just don't like PG's that put 25 and 30 shots on a nightly basis, thats not winning basketball.

Yeah, uh, Kyrie Irving averaged 17.4 shots this season. Kid can ball, he's just on a poorly constructed and run team.
