Knicks · here you go, carmelo-- read, watch, and learn (page 1)
the video is also really good. legler spot on.

who has the better track record in the playoffs and the greater success between the two. honest answers would do a world of good here.

So you don't think Melo should take a discount to stay?
I don't get it. Sounds like some posters would be dissatisfied if he does the smart thing and gives his knicks a discount
nixluva wrote:Melo will likely take just a little less and the Knicks will still pay him more than anyone else. We'll still have cap space next year and I think we'll be just fine. No one ever said just how much of a discount they wanted Melo to take and I doubt it was ever going to be $15 mil. Phil will do what it takes to keep him and still add what we need.
18-20 is a realistic hope

Athletes and sports owners don't live in a logical world. Whats logical about Lebron wanting a max contract which would hurt the Heat in trying to fill out the roster? Whats logical about Morey, noted 'Metrics-guy wanting Melo on his team? Whats logical about offering Gordon Hayward a max contract? Ben Gordon getting the contract he signed? What's logical about Gortat's deal? Etc....
These owners and GMS talk a good game, but when push comes to shove, they shoot themselves in the foot.

Ha Ha Ha This is a thread that was made by someone who think we have no brains. Melo can do exactly like Dirk did when he was 30 and then when he becomes the age Dirk is now he can take the same cut as Dirk did. How stupid can someone be using all those fancy words and not doing his research. Listen 7th and you shall learn that the people on this forum ain't that stupid. your Tread makes no sense. You are always trying to get over. Dirk will be 40 years old in a few years. Nice Try

I agree that some GM's make desperate illogical moves that's how we ended up in this mess.
Lebron is a tool for taking the max but then again, he was always a narcissistic tool.
Morey wanting Melo actually makes a lot of sense being that they already have key players in place so to overpay for Melo would be the right move as a final piece to a playoff team. And, melo's has become a more efficient player he is no AI.

Would it really shock you if Melo got the max or very close to it? If this happens, whats the new perception of Phil?

Yes, but using examples of people who got their money after thirty then take a pay cut is stupid. Dirk hadn't won a title yet. He was putting up great numbers(better) but like I said if you are going to use the gee wiz look how he sacrificed tactic why not choose someone who actually sacrificed when they were young. A player who sacrificed more than 2-3M a year would be nice too.

It would not shock me and its not up to Phil. Its up to Melo. Phil has no choice here, he is not letting Melo walk for nothing. He will give him the max if that is what Melo requires.
It would be a really stupid move by melo to take the max IMHO. GAME OF CHESS, your move mr anthony ...

Yeah ... I don't care about what other players do and why.
Dirk ain't goin nowhere at this point, he is making the smart move by retiring a maverick. Melo already is on his second team. Once a mercenary you are no duncan or dirk.

So let me get this straight, before the FA started Phil had all the cards regarding Melo and the money he can offer him but now its up to Melo? Come now. If Phil doesn't want Melo he doesn't have to pay Melo. He can do a S&T if he wants but he chooses to say that's off the table.
Should he take less to make it slightly easier for the Knicks to add players? I think so but the organization and Melo are each responsible. I think he should do a little under the Highest salary this year, 5.5% decrease, 7.5% decrease, 7.5% increase, and 7.5% increase

Nope the logic is irrefutable, post an example then change criteria when shown how falty my example is..... BRILLIANT!!!
mreinman wrote:also, what was/is dirk worth on the open market? Did he really take such a discount?
Probably not. A 37 year old receiving 10M is very Nash like. We see how that turned out. Nash only sticking around for the money. Nash did seem like he was working hard on his rehab but that's why they have editors.

I know right. Just say you don't think his performance on the court is worth the money he is expected to get and leave it at that. I don't want to hear about how others are more honorable when in the same situations they grabbed the money. I am not sure but wasn't the Cap lower back then? If so that is even worse of them to take up so much cap space. How dare they. No they got paid what the team was willing to give them and it worked out in the end.

Why don't you admit it!! Phil needs Melo and Phil wants Melo and he will pay top dollar to get Melo and the other thing is that if there ever is a trade Melo will have the choice of where he wants to go. You see Phil never had the power over Melo. It's Melo's call.
