Knicks · Broussard, Knicks told Melo he can have the max tonight. Have been telling him that all along (page 3)

The Max was there all along. Melo just wants to jump through hoops so he can feel loved and empowered. I'm totally against giving a max deal to any player including LeBron these are guaranteed contracts one would think they learned from Houston and Amare, Rose and all those that never lived up to their max deals.
I always got the feeling that Jackson was drawing a line when he talked about Anthony taking less than Max, and that he would not make a Max offer.
As some have speculated, this gives Anthony the opportunity to be magnanimous and take less to help the team, but if he really has been offered a Max contract and takes it, he comes across as selfish, Phil comes across as weak, and the Knicks are severely hamstrung in terms of optimizing their roster.
I do find it ironic that we did a sign and trade with Denver so Anthony could get more $ and an extra year (am I wrong about this?), and then he opts out his final year. If the only financial difference between a S&T and picking him up as a FA was the extra year he got, then in essence, we gave up players and picks for a guy we could have gotten as a FA for the same terms.
If we sign him to a max we should have a team option for the final year (of course Anthony won't do this) and cut him loose if our mediocrity continues.

Phil has learned a big lesson. If a coach have a problem with a player , no matter how much he is making he can sit him down. But when you are President of the team you must handle things different. Phil now is singing that old Temptation song " AIN'T TO PROUD TO BEG " please don't leave me Mel

So what! That's them and none of those guys could probably handle New York pressure. Just give the man his money and be done with it. If Melo takes less then that's on him.

I'm depressed and I don't even hate Melo! That contract is a disaster- there's no way he plays at a high level for 5 years- by which point he's earning what, $30mil?! I was hoping we could move him to the Bulls for something in return. I feared we'd lose him to Houston for nothing. But the absolute worst case scenario is signing him to that contract!

Irish ... this post really brings nothing to the table.
And Dirk and Duncan's situation is another animal - the comparison fails.

this is exactly right. Melo can be the hero or the villain. Check ... your move mr Melo?

Well I didn't like the trade and was outspoken about it at the time. However, Melo has won me over with his play. Also, the ridiculous personal attacks on the guy here are hard for me not to react to when I watch the games and see what Melo does and what he is up against. I think everyone here wants the Knicks to win.
