I think he would have had to opt out. Also, he makes more than that just next year.

Does he really love the Knicks that much to forego $23 million for one year to take $20 million over 4? Otherwise, it makes zero sense. You'd have to incentivize it so that he'd have his security AND be making more money.

No one in their right mind would do this Let me play for 4 years to make less money then I would if I just play 1 just to help out. You would have to 4 for 50 or something like that
You can stretch Amare, that is only for deals signed after the new CBA.
