Lets say Dolan stays out of Walsh's way and Walsh decides that if he can't get Lebron that he will stand pat and not bring in Amare Stoudemire or any other big "name."
What would you have liked to see him do at this juncture?
I'd go back to the game where Bernard King ripped his knee and sit him out. Ewing & King would've won multiple championships
Don't know if I fully trust Walsh as sure Dolan may have wanted Amare or big names. But that's no reason to offer him a 5yr 100mil unisured contract when the Suns were only offering 60mil. I am pretty sure Dolan would have been just as happy to sign Amare for 65mil.
But to play along, MDA would be to coach so the team would need to be built to his liking. Felton's deal was good since it was only like 2yrs and he was the best PG available if I remember correctly. So I would still sign Felton to the same contract. Mozgov was a solid signing as well so I would keep that as well. Would look for another forward that could rebound and stretch the court making Moz the primary PNR big. Would need a defensive SG that could knock down 3s to round out the rotation since Shump wouldn't be drafted yet. As well as a backup pass first PG for protection for Felton and Douglas.
Would S&T Lee for a trade exception and future pick.
There were a number of teams dumping assets left and right to try and sign LeBron, including their 2010 draft picks. I would've targeted as many of those picks as I could and acquire as many "good" players as possible like Al Jefferson, Kirk Hinrich (and the 17th pick), Michael Beasley, etc. The goal for the upcoming season would've been to pump up their trade value to get players to then make deals for other players that actually fit MDA's system.

Accept salary dumps in exchange for picks.
anything but amare'e!
i don't know, because i don't remember what was available at the time,
i would say stay put with what you have, you have that cap space, you have the young guys, try to get a decent point in there and play the season out, get a decent pick, try again for a big signing the next season and play it cool

Oddly enough, I can see plenty of fans approving of this idea. Well, maybe not the Darko part.
