Knicks · Begley:Jackson has approached a team about trading Stoudemire (page 1)

CrushAlot @ 7/5/2014 4:34 PM
The Knicks also talked to teams about dealing Iman Shumpert prior to the NBA draft and have talked to at least one team about trading Amar'e Stoudemire, according to a source. Stoudemire is entering the final year of his contract this season and is scheduled to make $23.4 million. The trade and discussions of moving Shumpert and Stoudemire suggest Jackson is taking an aggressive approach to overhauling the Knicks' roster.

Haha, you guys all jumped on me when a said this could happen if Melo stays. Gotta improve the roster now. This looks like a salary dump since no mention of players coming back.

I wonder if this would make space to sign Pau.

If Stat and Shump are traded and we don't take back any players, we would be right around the cap if we keep all of our non guaranteed contracts. It would take some more maneuvering, but we would also have the full MLE

Cool. Then we can sign Boozer for the minimum after he gets amnestied. Would be awesome to see Melo blow the Bulls off and have Chicago pay Boozer's way on our roster.

If we waive Odom, Brown and Tyler it would look like this before adding Melo's salary (37,766,529)

Andrea Bargnani $12,000,000
Jose Calderon $7,097,191
JR Smith $5,982,375
Samuel Dalembert $3,867,282
Wayne Ellington $2,500,000
Pablo Prigioni $1,662,961
Metta World Peace $1,661,550
Shane Larkin $1,606,080
Tim Hardaway Jr $1,250,640
Cap Hold (2) 2nd Rd. picks approx. 1.8M

Boozer has Injured Amare levels of bad defense. If we somehow find a way to get rid of STAT we don't want to replace him with a another STAT facsimile.

Just adding big man depth. I just like the idea of Boozer sitting on our on bench on Jerry Reinsdorf dime.

Phil might be trying to add more talent, 2015 be damned. Maybe a couple of quality role players with longer deals in exchange for Stat's expiring contract. Don't mind depending on who he gets back. We don't know if he just hasn't found the right team and players yet.

They keep moving the finish line...Durant in 2016?

Idk, maybe. A solid roster would help as well as his old teammate Fisher proving that he can coach.

Why are teams taking Amares contract for nothing again

Yep, The only way I team would do this is because they are looking toward next summer and need to get to the minimum salary requirements without taking on any more years.

So they would be looking to dump salary on us.

No team is actually doing this because they WANT stat-tuchus

Not exactlty but that's much more likely. However say for instance that Philly doesn't wants to get to the minimum salary threshold but doesn't want any contracts that will last more than this year. SInce they are so far below the minimum they could use Amar'e to reach the NBA cap floor. I seriously doubt that they would do this but it is possible I guess and why they would not need for the knicks to take back salary. Even if they do the Lin trade they could still use STAT's to get them just at the floor then sign 2-4 vet minimum contracts. This helps them in 2015 when Young(traded/ opts out) and theoretically Lin/STAT comes off the books.
