Yep, The only way I team would do this is because they are looking toward next summer and need to get to the minimum salary requirements without taking on any more years.

So they would be looking to dump salary on us.

No team is actually doing this because they WANT stat-tuchus

Not exactlty but that's much more likely. However say for instance that Philly doesn't wants to get to the minimum salary threshold but doesn't want any contracts that will last more than this year. SInce they are so far below the minimum they could use Amar'e to reach the NBA cap floor. I seriously doubt that they would do this but it is possible I guess and why they would not need for the knicks to take back salary. Even if they do the Lin trade they could still use STAT's to get them just at the floor then sign 2-4 vet minimum contracts. This helps them in 2015 when Young(traded/ opts out) and theoretically Lin/STAT comes off the books.

They wouldn't bother to trade for anyone just to get to the salary floor. The only punishment for not getting to the salary floor is that however much money a team is below the floor gets split between the players on the team. Not worth it at all for Philly to take on Amare without getting some sort of sweetener.

Philly was interested in Stat once. Just like with Tyson and Dallas, Phill may be checking on our past connections to see if the interest is still there. Hopefully, they still are.
smackeddog @ 7/6/2014 5:00 AM
If you trade Amar'e, you have to give up assets- what's the point? Just let him expire- losing his contract doesn't achieve anything, we'd still be over the cap.

If a team is looking to make the minimum salary by taking on Stat, how does dumping a salary on us help them. (Unless you mean a small salary that is longer, perhaps adding up to Stats 23 million?)
In exchange they get Shump, which, depending on Amare's health (yes,HUGE IF), might not be necessary. I wonder if Stat can find his way to Orlando and what it might cost us. Zen will not be taken advantage of though. Thank God he is here, the Bargs trade wouldn't have ever happened. I mean teams are demanding a first to take on Lin, and we gave a first for Bargs and his bad contract. And then passed on Lowry. Had the Bargs trade not gone through, we'd have Lowry right now...

Do we get a huge Trade Exception if we move Stat to a team under the cap? I mean, theoretically, couldn't we use that exception on Bron or any FA? (I know it is in our dreams but is that possible?)

this is quite painful for me to stomache

If this happens knick fans should rejoice. They only way the knicks do it is to sigh lebron and melo. Onenof the few scenerios i can see melo taking a considerable pay cut

That's how I see it too.

Could also be a plan b type thing if Melo were to leave. Try and shop the expiring deal for Melo replacement

Jmpasq @ 7/6/2014 8:20 AM
So Philly is going take Amares contract so a team in their own division can get Lebron James, Oh that clears it up it makes even more sense now. Philly doesnt even have any bad contracts to dump Thaddeus Young has 1 year left on a player option that he probably opts out on. Teams would be willing to take him anyway for assets

Philly might want a clean slate with no contracts on the roster that they don't want.

Philly is building to compete in a few years.... They could probably care less what the knicks are doing the next 2-3 years. If the knicks are looking to starphuch, they will be on a natural decline by then anyway

What contracts? Philly has 1 player not on rookie deal after this year and its not even a bad contract, plus its a player option. They dont need to take a ridiculous Amare contract to clear rookie deals.

Maybe bargs for thadeus.... You'll never know what a team would be willing to do. There have been a few questionable trades and signings already.

But Thadeus has value other teams would take him they dont need to take a crap player like Bargs back. I think people need to be a little realistic. Now if you tell me the Knicks are giving the 76ers a 2018 draft pick and Larkin, with these horrible contrats maybe that makes some sense
babyKnicks @ 7/6/2014 9:13 AM
Did anybody else, during their rants, think to am lakers that shump was part of the deal. Similar to chandler and Felton, shump and an expiring amare is something the suns (his ex team) and possibly an Orlando (he's from Florida) would take on.

Shump is pretty good. Amare is a serviceable gigantic expiring contract.

Try to remember chandler/Felton.

Then start tossing around "why would theys"

Shump amare makes total sense to me and would be monumental!

That 1 is at least believable. In order for that to happen though the Suns would have to strike out completely in FA

babyKnicks @ 7/6/2014 9:22 AM
I hear ya. Maybe we have to part with shump and jr? But I definitely see teams around the league (if they are taking asiks and lins of the world) taking amare for shump and jr.

Though. I'd love to see shump and amare in the triangle. Amare showed promise. But in the end. Maybe he is gone after this year.

I keep thinking the suns would welcome him back for mad pr reasons.

Also. They have already struck out in free agency.

They have only come up anecdotely. Lebron ain't going there.

I'm actually beginning to lose my mind with blind optimism that we could end up with lebron and melo and gasol.

But I have to slow my roll.

If we get melo and someone of gasols level (even some sort of bargs and amare platoon machine) and boozer for the vet minimum...

So many possibilities.

culture change-- you don't want a guy who is a dead man walking on a rebuild squad. can't rely on his "professionalism" here.

jackson does not seem like he will abide any disgruntlement.

Amare is not a locker room killer. Let's try to focus team. Amare is king team mate.

okay so where does he fit into the triangle offense?

Maybe they do that....If the knicks lose on Melo, thaddeus could be a legit target. Or nah....

Is say somewhere along the same lines as Horace grant and the worm.

Even a pau back up.
