I don't see why we would move Amare and Shumpert at this point.
Let's not discount the postive impact that Fisher could have on Iman. Woodsen's double standard last season was a lot for the kid to handle. If he is humble and hungry he could prove to be a valuable player and increase his trade value.
Amare is what he is at this point, but will be playing for a new contract. At 20 minutes a night we would be hard pressed to add someone with his offensive talent.
I love Amares game..his numbers doesnt look good because he didnt start last year...but he definitly is a 18 and 8 per game guy.....But my question is COntract expiring contracts use to be a hot commodity, where you wouldnt have to give up a first round pick...WHat changed, because ive been wondering for the longest...I mean if we trade him and dont sign anyone good....I just say keep him then...Unless phil gets the nod that Lebron wants to trade him....

I think once the max guys decide, the market for expiring contracts will change. There are teams who need to move a player or two right now to clear a max slot and they are willing to give up assets to do it. (specifically Houston and Cleveland)

Exactly, nothing has changed...we dumped chandler's expiring for multiple picks...no way you say felton got us those picks...i'm telling you, don't fall for it.
If Jax has a way to dump Amare and Bargnani and create 40mm in cap space this offseason without giving up Hardaway or anymore picks, he wouldn't just be Zen, he will have achieved Nirvana.
I always like Amare but his story isnt having a happy NYK ending... that ship has sailed. What will be really tricky is if he stays and plays really well what do we do? Sell high at the deadline? Tough one....

Depends - are we top 3 in the East? If so, we probably can't. If we are a borderline playoff team or below than yes. A 4-5-6 seed is tough but I'd make the sell. That would be my threshold.
EDIT: this is assuming we are getting picks/young talent that we couldn't afford to say no to
If the 76ers are willing to give up noel and young, plus swap picks for next yrs draft, I'll give them Amare and shump.
Then if Amare looks good this season, we can sign him for a reasonable contract next off season.

Yes, a 23 million dollar expiring contract.
If we shifted Bargs in a separate deal as that fantasy-based Moke Hamilton article suggested, then I would be for this (though I'd rather we got rid of Tim Jr), but losing Shump just to get rid of Amar'es contract makes no sense

Philly doesnt need expiring contracts they are 30 million under the cap anyway. The only non rookie deal they have is Thaddeus Young who has a player option next season and makes 9 million

What did he suggest we do? Personally, I've been a bit torn about Bargnani. His talent is intriguing but his fire for the game is not. Since he's due a big payday though, I could see him being the most likely of our disappointments, to have a big season. That would help us at least get back a few second rounders at the trade deadline for him. But if a team were willing to absorb his salary, I might just be tempted to do that. If Milwaukee approached me today about absorbing Bargnani's $12 million deal for Mayo's $8 million deal ($16 million/2 years), I'd do it. We'd get another ($4 million) trade exception and upgrade the guard position.
How do you guys think that Thaddeus Young would fit with Melo? I kinda like Young but I'm a bit skeptical of those two gelling with one another.

Expiring contracts have value when you are trading them away for longer contracts. They don't have value if you are trading them in straight up salary dumps. Suns traded there lottery pick #10 to dump Tom Guggliota's 10mil expiring contract at the draft yrs back.

Is he as much as a willing passer/defender as Martin was though?
Its interesting how Philly and Utah are treating free agency though. They aren't using free agency to sign free agents. They are using free agency and there massive cap space to add unwanted short term contracts to acquire assets.
This may be the route to take going forward. Rather then overpay a free agent trade for unwanted expiring deals and assets.

They immediately get an asset and have the potential of doubling up if they end up moving these vets to contenders at the trade deadline.
