Option 3 would be the best thing Melo could do. Take less money and show your loyalty to the team and show you want the Knicks to win moe than a fw extra million that you make from endorsements and stuff anyway.

i don't care either way, but why would option 3 be best for melo? why should he give a "deep discount" and leave all that money on the table? so fans think he's a better guy? would you give your place of employment a "deep discount" to keep your services?

4) Melo stays, give us a discount ( not deep) especially in yrs 2 and 3 when we have open cap space to sign another max and some nice complementary chips to hopefully compete for the championship again.

Dk always has Melo losing at least 30 million if he has character and is about winning. If he doesn't lose at least 30 million he is a low character villain.

I can live with that but I don't think Melo will sign here for anything less than max knowing its going to be a few years before he can contend. Lakers are in the same boat but it's LA, less pressure from the media, sunny, Kobe, Lala etc

the answer is so he can win here in new york. he said he wants to win so this is what he has to do. can't expect jackson to scramble to assemble somthing, he has bigger fish to fry, such as building a champion. that starts with sacrifice, which is clearly not in melo's repertoire.

however, the precedents have been set to the degree that he will look really bad if he doesn't.
