Knicks · Max guys....... (page 1)

Nalod @ 7/9/2014 5:46 PM

Everytime a guy gets max I read by posters "Not worth it"!

Kyrie
Haywood
Melo
Love
Kobe

So besides Durant and Lebron, who is?

Westbrook? Noah? Rose? Monta?

If he had good ankles, Steph Curry should have. I read Love cus he had the broken wrist issue. Bropez had a bad spell but was healthy prior.

Who is a max player in the NBA?

earthmansurfer @ 7/9/2014 5:49 PM
Economically speaking, all guys who get the max are worth it. Don't forget the NBA has a cap, salaries would be even higher than they are.
I think it interesting to put values on players with no regard to the cap. Then you would see Lebron's salary double, and Haywoods "fair".

I do think that some teams will "overpay" just to stay competitive, but again, it is an economic decision.

Its not about the max 129 million over 5 years is a shitload of money for any player. Unfortunetly Nalod there is a salary cap so the more money you cant save the better it helps the team build a long standing contender.

Monta Ellis? Lmao dude

meloshouldgo @ 7/9/2014 9:20 PM
I would say Noah, Paul George and Stephen Curry. Don't know what Parker makes but he had a max like season.
PresIke @ 7/9/2014 9:33 PM
i think a max contract is relative and harder to assess.

melo may be max to the knicks, because it is not just his value on the court.

it's his value to the organization and attracting other players.

this is particularly for a team with as few assets as the knicks have (more than we had before phil jax came).

so each player's salary is relative to the market, not necessarily actual performance on the court.

yellowboy90 @ 7/9/2014 10:06 PM
If Noah did get the max then broke down people would say, "why would anyone give a guy with injury issues the max".

Who has Melo attracted?

Max is relative depending on years served, a max worth 16 is a lot different then a max worth 26. I think those lower deals you can make an argument many could be worth that

Knicks haven't had cap space to bring anyone in other than mini mle guys. I guess you have to judge his recruiting potential based on next offseason when they actually have money.

To be fair, there has not been any room to work with. But, Rashweed and Kidd also did join and had an impact. For a while at least.

Chandler parsons. That kid from Utah.

The problem is that we're not going to be picking up guys for just one year. We're blowing off the 2015, 2016, 2017, etc. free agency periods and blowing off all the trade advantages teams have when their under the cap just so that we can pick up guys whose teams don't even want them.

I think Jax will be opportunistic. I don't think he makes a Cleveland trade in anticipation of a signing but I also don't think he waits in anticipation of a brighter future if there are good moves to be made.
