How about a sign and trade with us for Bargnani? What if we ask them nicely?

Sounds like the lakers considered taking Amare for PAu before all their cap space was used up. Kupchek appears to be getting ready for Durante and 2016. The lakers should have cap space and assets to be players then.
Markji @ 7/12/2014 8:52 AM
Obviously Melo would prefer to play somewhere else but at full contract so I think he is waiting for a sign and trade with either Chicago or Lakers. IMO, watch for a 3 way sign and trade between Knicks, Lakers, Bulls. This is my opinion....no inside info. Just obvious something is up with Melo.

Or, perhaps another reason - Melo is waiting to see if we can get someone like Pau G before he commits to us. So he will feel that we have a shot at a championship.

Either way, I can't really blame Melo - he wants his money and he wants to win. He does have a lot of leverage and is playing it.

When Melo comes back to the Knicks I will be a fan but it won't be the same. He allow us to be fleeced by Denver and he didn't say a word. If we didn't do the deal he would have went to the Nets. I am starting to feel that Melo has no personal feelings towards New york. I just wouldn't feel right if the things that I am hearing are true. I will give him the benefit of doubt. But if he is trying to leave we need to get the same package as we gave up to get him and if we don't just let him walk and let him know he screwed us. he will have to explain to the press and every one else. When he goes to Denver they will hate him and when comes to New York they will hate him. My thing is how much better is Melo over Deng?

On the contrary, if he came here for a discount despite Chicago having a much better situation to offer, I think it would show how committed he is to NY. It's a hard decision. Chicago has a .600 team without him, a top 4 MVP candidate, and lots of picks and good role players. We have nothing except future cap space. Our 2nd best player is Jose Calderon! He can either team up with Noah or Calderon!

i can't imagine anyone turning down the opportunity to run with joakim noah. do any of their backcourt players play great defense?

It's flattering and puzzling that the decision is actually a hard one for him!

You were doing fine until this part.

Its true that Chicago is tempting on the surface, but not the slam dunk you describe, while NY is no longer the dump you seem to try to project.

Chicago is a strong team without Melo, but the championship dream depends on Rose, who is as big uncertainty as any other. Good role players will help, as will picks if moved wisely, but for Melo to consider Chicago, its all about a former MVP that is a huge question mark.

New York is all about Phil's plan, but its the way Jackson has started that must be intriguing to Melo. Phil seems driven to get a championship during his tenure and has a definite plan. Melo knows that winning one championship in NY during the next 5 years will be his legacy, and what a tempting one. And he knows we aren't far, with huge contracts ending next season and young pieces we didn't have years. Add his family wanting to stay and the NY connection and you might have the answer to his indecision.

Well if Melo feels that way about Phil/Knicks then he would have no problem taking a lot less like he said he would months ago right?

your overrating rose. players like him can be just as much of a hindrance with their style of play. if the chicago bulls are relying on rose they are in trouble. now, if rose could defend the position, run a decent pick and roll, and orchestrate better then you have a point. until that time however....

I agree with you, but Im talking about their "sales pitch". The Bulls were until recently Rose's team and as a former MVP, you can understand how playing with a healthy Rose, the active Noah, the coach and the good role players is a temptation on paper. When you get to reality is when you wonder, even with a healthy Rose, how would things work with Melo.

CrushAlot @ 7/12/2014 9:58 AM
The Bulls won 62 games and went to the conference finals in Rose's mvp year. They lost to the Heat but that team doesn't exist anymore. I think guys are underrating what Rose was. If he can get back to pre-injury form the Bulls maybe the favorite in the east.

first off he won't get back to pre-injury form and even if he could, the type of game he was known for is actually self-destructive and goes a ways to undermining the team cohesiveness. he needs to re-shape his game-- fewer one on one plays based on the knee-wrecking crossovers he does with the aid of palming no-calls. work on maintaining his dribble and keeping his head up. he should be looking at tony parker's game with it's different release points and the shooting off the wrong foot etc. etc. rose alos needs to devote himself to being a better defender.

he needs to come back a different player than he was if the bulls are going to succeed with him alone or with melo.

Yes those Bulls were a damn good team but that was 2011, Amare averaged 25 and 8 and was serenaded with MVP chants. He has had 2 terrible knee injuries he will never be that good again.

I agree Rose has been away from the game for 3yrs. Far too long. I see his career going the way of grant hill & Tracy McGrady

The kid is just 25. He is far too young and too talented to speculate on what happens at this point. Playing 3000 minutes annually for Thibs might need to change.

What he said. Over valuing other players and under valuing ours hurts.

Any time the word IF is used then...

Zwerling saying decision now expected Monday. I don't even give a f*** now if Melo is back or not, I just want Phil to know so he can make the moves he needs to either way.
