Im beyond exited for this Phil era. I pray to God Melo's contract doesn't ruin it for me. I will switch teams this time and become a Hornet fan

Why? Is it because Ewing is there?

That would be flat out insane!

Phil is lining it up for New York to be the best place for a star player that wants to leave a team in the next couple years. Even at 125 million, New York could retain Shumpert at his QO cap hold, Larkin, TH Jr and Smith could pick up his option and there'd still be about 20 million to play with (plus whatever increase happens and minus the cap hold of New York's 1st-rounder). If any of the young talent actually develops because the coaching is better or some other reason, the Knicks are going to be in a good spot to try and get somebody. This contract isn't going to do a lot of damage.

Why does it seem like the most negative posters around here don't seem to be able to spell "liek"..."kcniks" seriously??? I mean like WTF, did all the Melo haters fail out of basic remedial English 101 class? Were there no R.I.F. (aka Reading Is Fundamental) trucks in their neighborhood??? Gentlemen please get a dictionary (or at least a computer w/spell check) & post something literate and worth reading.
codeunknown @ 7/12/2014 10:36 PM
Any "no trade" clause here is problematic. Within the next 1.5 years, he needs to be turned over for assets.

Whens the last time you posted something of value here. You seem like you just like to complain about people who post here and never discuss basketball. Maybe its time for you to move on.

As opposed to spelling "liek" a 4 year old??? Dude GTFOH with that lame analysis. Here's a tip for you, in the future don't start a fight with someone who is more well read, more eloquent & in general smarter than you are. It's a losing proposition.

PS - For your benefit I have attached a working definition for "proposition" since i know that's an SAT level word

Seriously Andrew??? I read the site religiously almost every day, feel free to ping my IP address if necessary but sometimes the level of nasty petty comments pushes me over the edge. I apologize and will go back to lurking.

PS - Oh and for the record the "last" time i posted was to invite UK members to actually play basketball and enjoy each other's company instead of "bishing" & moaning about the star player on our team.

Dont worry dude I have a good job along with a family so i guess i must of done something right in school and in the social world. You are just acting very nasty. Even the mods seems tired of you so maybe instead of insulting people like a baby try discussng the knicks in a civil manner

Dagger wrote:He wants a no-trade clause on top of the Max?! I'm gonna have a really hard rooting for this guy if both of these conditions are true. Throw all that talk about winning out the window. MElo needs to put MElo first! Are you sure you don't want to sign with Chicago? Just gotta hope it's not really the Max if he really can't be traded, that's all I can say. Talk about selfish IF this is true.

Why would we do him a favor with a no-trade clause when he won't even concede the tiniest fraction of money?

If the conditions of the deal are max contract with ano trade clause, then Melo is truly a prick.

I wouldnt call him that BUT he didnt mean what he said about taking less. If he thinks he can truly win here then i give him support but he did say he would most definetly take less

I'm pretty sure Carmelo will take less than $129 million. Not saying it will be five years $100 but it won't be $129 million
Watch it will probably be 120-125 million and he will say he took less lol

which would still make him the highest paid player in the game.
Exactly which is crazy when you think of guys like lebron durant duncan parker dirk and even noah who have had more success especially in postseason

It's not crazy when you realize that these salaries and the amount you can make are set in stone and all depend on the years you have put in. Dirk and Duncan have had max salaries in the past. Durant hasn't put in as many years as Melo yet, but do you have any doubt that he wont get his money? If Lebron stays in Miami, he would have gotten more as well....

Oh it's *not* crazy when you look at it from Melo's perspective. But that's not my concern. I'm looking at it from the Knicks' perspective. We have to find a way to build a team that competes against teams with hall-of-famers making only around $10 mil a year (SAS) or the best player on the planet making millions less than Melo.

If you want to use San An as a model, then its the whole leagues problem if they want to wrestle the trophy from them. If this is the case, Bosh is an idiot for taking the max, he should have requested 10 mil per so they can add more talent after Lebron departed. Speaking of Lebron, he's an idiot too for taking the max, he should have only taken 10 mil so they can sign Love outright next year and possibly Marc Gasol so they can compete with the Spurs.

Durant is coming up for FA's too. He's he gonna take a serious pay cut so they can add more talent to OKC?

Well Durant and Lebron are better players than Melo and have had more success so of course they should get more. If I were Melo and i knew my playoff record was tough to look at i would take a paycut in order to get the best players i can to build around me

So this would actually be your thought process? Or did you just want to take a shot at Melos playoff record for the billionth time?
Not taking a shot at melo. See this is what aggravates me. If i am even a tad bit critical of melo i get labeled a melo hater. i have defended the guy plenty of times. However i dont care about his finacial welfare i jst acre about the Knicks payroll because i want to build a long standing contender. I have said a billion times i would liek to have melo back to build around him but the least he could do is take a tad bit less to help phil build the team

You're too damn sensitive. First off, not once did I label you a "melo hater". You keep trying to play victim for some reason. Second, if you read my post instead of getting emotional, you would have seen that the point was that you keep repeating that "Melos playoff record isn't the best" when, most of the time, it was nothing to do with the conversation. That would be taking a shot.
no need to be sensitive dude. We are both diehard knick fans lets just keep it civil. Lets Go Knicks!!

Quality response Irish
