That is why this deal makes no sense to me. He should have signed for the full max of what ever it was of 96 Million with an opt out after the first year. This way if he gets injured he can continue his maxed out deal. That's why his deal for 2 years 42.1 million makes absolutely no sense. Unless he isn't allowed to opt out after his first year in the 4 year 96 million deal.

Cleveland will pay Lebron anything he wants under the CBA even if he got injured.
so again Lebron gives his team a nice discount while our boy Melo asks for doubles. nice!
Lebron thinks about what's best for the team and about winning. Melo thinks about Melo. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. We decided to go and pay for this selfish chucker, so that's what we got.

Once the cap increases after the new tv deal, Lebron stands to make more max dollars if he re-ups in 2 years. Seems to me like Lebron is looking out for Lebron. Its a smart business move on his part....

Bosh, Parson's, Haywood, and many others are asking for doubles too, but why let facts get in the way of another Anti-Melo dig....

Are you for real? What does Parsons and anyone else have to do with this? Do you actually post anything basketball related or spend all day calling people out on Anti Melo digs??? This is fucking insane. What makes you think people need your permission to express their opinions. What a complete tool.

if you follow my posts, I defend him all the time against the extreme left but the extreme right wear blinders just like tkf wears anti melo colored glasses.
How about Lebron? 21 per for the best player in the league by a mile. This after he came off another discounted contract.
What Melo needs to understand in NY is that being a dik costs you a lot of money, unless you win so he better fukken win.
Lets see the details of the contract. Maybe he will surprise me but I'm not counting on it.

Completely Agree. Good Post
Isnt 21 the max that clevland could pay him?
LeBron would be hated here in NY.
One thing is to want "fiscal responsibility" as Phil Jackson put it, but some here simply hate Carmelo.
Must be a NY thing...

LOL, you think any of that matters, you have to have read this board often enough to know facts don't mean much to certain crowds.

First off, I've been talking plenty of BB on this board for years, I'm a freakin' coach for crying out loud. But today, Melo's contract is the topic of choice for obvious reasons. You've been on a tirade, jumping thread to thread with Melo digs concerning his contract. From my perspective, I don't understand how anyone could fault a player for signing a contract that was put in front of them. It ain't the players job to crunch numbers. Any issue with the contract should be taken up with the President of BB operations who offered the contract in the first place, no?
With that said, PJax has come out to today and said Melo did everything that was asked of him. If this is the case, how is the player at fault?

This
To be honest, how about you form your own opinion. And when you do, how about you stick to it instead of always backing off, and claiming to be misquoted.

I'm not sure a player can opt out of a contract unless it's in the last 2yrs of the deal?

We all know that PJax had no power here. He was giving Melo what ever he wanted so that he does not lose him for zilch.
I don't know what kind of discount that Melo gave but if its 7 million over five years then I will lose some respect for him.
Players have the option of taking less money and they need to make a calculated decision based on a number of variables.
How much more is he loved if he signs for 110 million? How much more can he make in endorsements? Imho it would be the "smart" thing to do and I'm sure that CAA does not help him make the correct decisions.
By taking a non-discounted salary he puts a huge target on his back and if he does not succeed here he will be vilified to no end. Does he realize that or is he too much of a narcissist?
Either way, its gonna be fun to see how this plays out.

Other than LeBron, athletes do not usually take discounted contracts during their prime years. Regardless of what any athlete says abut the love of a team or city, or wanting to win a championship, its always about the money. Sports is big business. D Rose is a prime example of taking as much as you can, while you can. The life expectancy of the average athlete isn't very long.
I've seen Duncan and Dirk mentioned as taking discounts but keep in mind, these dudes didn't take discounts until after they already made max money or already won 'Chips. Another thing to consider is the expected Salary Cap increase in a couple of years. The max slot will increase by the time we hit year 3 of Melo's contract
As far as placing a target on his back, well, it seems as if PJax is already speaking favorably of Melo as if Melo did PJax and the franchise a favor with the contract he signed. True or not, this should take some of the heat off especially when you consider most of the fan base trusts PJax.

Everything that Pjax says is spin/zen sh1t.
If the knicks are losing and phil does not like the way Melo is playing he will rip him. Just ask Kobe.
Baring injury, I think that Melo will do very well in the system and that his efficiency which has become very good will be even better. I just wish that he would be giving them more of a discount.
its all on his SHOULDERS
lets play ball.
