I have said 100 times im happy to have him bcak and have no problem with the contract but i personally would have preferred him take 100-110 million because they would have been a tremednous sacrifice from him. I don't think he expected a 30 year old to take a 12 million dollar pay cut so that he could trump Duncan by beating him to taking a big hit for the team by 6 years. Duncan was making the big bucks through age 36. Same thing as Dirk. Those guys also play in Texas where there isn't a state income tax. Reports are Ariza had the same deal in Washington as Houston and wanted to go back to the Wiz but the tax difference was significant enough that it played a role in his decision.

Yeah we should make a statue. Even though im a diehard Knick fan but i really respect a guy like Tim Duncan. He is probably one of the best players i have ever seen besides jordan/lebron and the guy continues to take less. No wonder San Antonio wins for 20 years

Duncan made over 21 mil when he was 36 in a tax free state. The guy is great but to suggest that another player should cut 6 years of max earning time off of their career to emulate a guy that did it at 36, not 30 doesn't make sense to me. 'The guy continues to take less' is far from accurate. He took less after he turned 36.

I NEVER said Melo should emulate Duncan. I never said Duncan took less when he was melo's age. I know its easy to misinterpret over the computer so i'll try and explain it as simply as possible. I simply said melo taking 5 years 110 million would be fair on both sides. I just brought up duncan for the hell of it. I never said he should do whta duncan did. Well first of all it had nothign to do with melo. I was just talking about Duncan on his own. I guess youa re trying to come to melo's defense but there is no need because i was just talking about Duncan. Secondly i would never comapre the two because lets face it Duncan is teh better player in his prime and a hall of famer
Duncan made over 21 mil when he was 36 in a tax free state. The guy is great but to suggest that another player should cut 6 years of max earning time off of their career to emulate a guy that did it at 36, not 30 doesn't make sense to me. 'The guy continues to take less' is far from accurate. He took less after he turned 36.
I NEVER said Melo should emulate Duncan. I never said Duncan took less when he was melo's age. I know its easy to misinterpret over the computer so i'll try and explain it as simply as possible. I simply said melo taking 5 years 110 million would be fair on both sides. I just brought up duncan for the hell of it. I never said he should do whta duncan did. You just got confused it happns i do it too

Wow sorry. Not that big of a deal. I think I get a bit sensitive about the criticism of the Knick organization and Melo. I have become a much bigger Melo fan/defender since he became a Knick and some trash him here. Good luck with your family.

Just wnat to give you a little advice, most of the fans myself included arent bahsing melo, in fact we are happy with melo. However you cant blame people with wanting him to take less because he said he would. Its not an attack on melo its just wanting him to get to the next level as a player and leader. its actually a good thing IMO because the more fans push you the more it will help

To me its a non issue. Phil is happy and thus i'm happy. Phil is the one charged with building a contender. If he asked Melo specifically for the cut he ended up agreeing to, then that's all that matters, hot some arbitrary numbers we may come up with as the right amount Melo should sacrifice of his money. The process of building a contender isn't solely reliant on how much Melo makes. There are other factors.

Melo taking the advice from Phil seriously is even more important than how much of his money he sacrificed. We need this team to be playing at it's highest level as a team. Phil asking Melo to consider not trying to score every single time he touches the ball his a huge change. It involves trust on Melo's part. Trust of his teammates and of Phil. That is the same thing he had to convince Jordan and once MJ started trusting the system and his teammates they took off. I'm hoping for the same thing here.

Brought this up like 100,000 this past season alone. When it's all about one player other players never get a chance to develop. You can land the number 1 pick in the draft it won't matter. If Tim Duncan was a rookie on the Knicks last year he would've never become Tim Duncan

After watching McDermott tonight in Summer League action both Phil and Nuggets may have regret, although Harris may be a gem.

I think Phil could have exercised due diligence and entertained S&T offers, to peak Anthony's value. What would the harm be knowing Max contract was always the Trump Card?

Well now we'll get to see if your theory is correct. Can Melo be part of a Team Oriented system and win? Phil has bet it all on Melo being able to fit in his beloved Triangle and thrive. The team will be trained to have the spacing, ball and player movement that is the bedrock of the Triangle and Melo will play the Jordan/Kobe role in that system. It seems Melo is tailor made for that role. It's gonna be very interesting to see develop.
