Knicks · Melo's Contract[5yrs $124mil ETO on 5th] (page 1)

F500ONE @ 7/15/2014 7:54 PM
mreinman @ 7/15/2014 7:56 PM
gross
meloshouldgo @ 7/15/2014 7:57 PM
He has the option or the team has the option?
Bonn1997 @ 7/15/2014 7:57 PM
Does the ETO mean less than $124 is guaranteed?
No info. on the possible no trade clause?
mreinman @ 7/15/2014 7:58 PM
ETO is the players option
F500ONE @ 7/15/2014 8:03 PM
Sounds like Melo got a $2mil raise since yesterday for taking a paycut at $122mil.

That's how I interpret the recent figures

meloshouldgo @ 7/15/2014 8:04 PM
Definitely gross. No trade clause would be the last nail in the coffin

No wonder they were so slow with official news.

Maybe one of the worst contract agreements I've ever seen

How did Phil reason this was remotely palatable. What were the other 4 contract options?

mreinman @ 7/15/2014 8:09 PM
I think that the Melo all cost defenders will need to have a late night regroup session

120
121
122

and

123

he took option 5

I guess that he "sort of" did what phil wanted. NOT!

meloshouldgo @ 7/15/2014 8:24 PM
OK my worst fears are confirmed. We be screwed
yellowboy90 @ 7/15/2014 8:34 PM
Is this the official contract or was the last one the official contract? Will the one that is reported tomorrow be the official one or the one that is reported next week?
Knicks22 @ 7/15/2014 8:48 PM

Houston, Amare, and now this one. Contracts that will cripple the franchise for years....

Seriously?

It is 2M more than the rumored deal and now we are doomed?

no trade and an ETO?

Can some of you just say "damn that sucks"?

You can say that and still think he is a top player.

Dagger @ 7/15/2014 9:02 PM

He was better off taking a max contract without these little throw-ins than insulting our intelligence with this phoney balogney paycut, just when we had gotten used to the idea of 122 with none of these little "perks" he throws salt in the wound.

Why would you think those things would not be in his contract? Why would any player who was offered that much money not have a no trade clause or an ETO? He only looked at a few teams in FA for a reason so to think that he would sign a contract that would allow a team to ship him to Utah, Sac, or etc would be reaching.

Now if you want to talk about the extra 2m then yes that is disappointing. I was still hoping for a deal under 120m but is it crippling I don't think so.

BigRedDog @ 7/15/2014 9:04 PM
Why is an ETO bad? Most people that hate the signing feel that Melo will be falling apart, on the downhill making the max at age 35. So if he leaves a yr early wouldn't that be good for the knicks???

Because if he's falling apart he's not going to exercise the ETO...it is only there to help Melo.
