This is like a Derek Harper, doc rivers pick up, PG's that are good, but we should have gotten 4 yrs ago
In a way, but just remember that in the Triangle you really don't need a great PG. You need a guard that can pass, shoot and make smart decisions. IF they can cover for his lack of D, Calderon will be great for this team.
We can always go big for defense with Shump at PG since he won't have to do much actual PG stuff.

You are correct, however, we don't have the lock down defenders and efficiency of the 2 TOP WING's in the entire NBA
IF we have Durant/Lebron playing that role, we would still be missing Kukoc/Rodman and the role players after shouldn't be hard to fill, probably Brian Williams/Ron Harper/Steve Kerr were the more talented role players that are after them that played a good amount of years
Btw,
Derek Harper was a Knick
Ron Harper was on the Bulls and Lakers

Whoever is the best defender among SGI'm surprised you even think Melo should start, haha.
i don't like his game and he is disgustingly overpaid but the triangle is his opportunity to be more than a zero-sum jayvee player come playoff time and it's always about the playoffs.
I wonder if Fisher will have the guts to sit him if he refuses to run the offense properly. How the youngins have looked running it is very encouraging

PF: Bargnani
SF: Melo
SG: Hardaway
PG: Calderon
I build my triangle around Bargs, Melo and Hardaway for now with the belief that Marc Gasol will replace Bargs in that spot in the future and the PF spot will be filled with a Rodman type rebounder/defender (probably the reason we were looking at Chris Andersen).
I think JR and Hardaway get to fight it out in preseason for the starting job. Ultimately, I think Hardaway's shooting skills win him the spot.
I think Smith, Aldrich, Tyler and Dalembert fight for the starting C spot. Knowing it is a temp roll and that Smith is likely to be the backup behind the future Gasol (I think you plan for it), either Tyler or Dalembert get the nod as the starter. At this point, I think Fish starts Dalembert as the better defensive presence. Though maybe Aldrich can take that spot. I expect a lot of hard fouls from the C position. I think PJ intends to take back the paint in MSG, like the old days.
I think this starting lineup is lacking defensively such that it is near impossible to get past the first round of the playoffs. I think the bet that PJ and Fish need to make is that Bargs will step up his defense in this system knowing that the ball is going to be pushed into the paint to start the possession on the other end.

Rotation:
G/F-- Shumpert

PF/C- Bargnani
PG--- Pablo
SF--- Cleanthony
PF/C- Smith
PG- Larkin
The IR:
C-- Aldrich
PF- Tyler
SG- Ellington
Notes:
•Aldrich could have the advantage over Smith because of his Summer League work on the triangle.
•Guard is definitely crowded, especially with guys that should get minutes. I think the danger zone is between Smith and Shumpert. Ellington could be dealt, but it wont change the minutes glut at SG. I wonder if Fish would consider Shumpert at PG. If so, Aldrich would move to the active roster.
•If a guard is traded, would expect a backup SF coming back, to release some pressure on Cleanthony, who still should be the primary backup.
•Frontcourt rotation will be interesting as no player seems to be suited for 30+ mins.

Chances are that Amare, Bargs and Pablo spend many games on the IR

I doubt Pablo has visited a Dr for himself since he's been an adult. He seems like one of those guys that never gets a cold.

I put in bold the part where I suggest that could change. In one hand, you wonder why the Knicks would pay the MLE for a guy to be in the IR as opposed to a guy signed for the veteran's minimum. Smith is talented and is extremely active, one area that Phil has emphasized in interviews.
On the other hand, Aldrich shined in his Summer League debut and has the advantage of having already been in the "Summer League Training Camp" of Fisher. He is talented, young and as value. I could easily see him earning the spot on the active roster over JSmith, so this should be a storyline to follow in Training Camp and Pre-Season.
Anji wrote:I think Amare could start if Jason is good enough. Phil might be looking to go big with the knicks.
Yeah, depth in the frontcourt and Amar'e in his last year may make him valuable as a starter, depending on Fisher's plan. Even if limited to 28mins or less, he could be valuable there. Health is always the biggest IF. Defense is also a significant IF, but Dalembert and Co. could help offset that at C.

He is like flees on a dog very annoying and cant go away. A simple question was asked about who will be your choice for the starting line up. Nothing else. If we win a championship with Melo and Melo gets the Mvp he would not give even the championship recognition because of his hate for Melo. For him its personal and borderline of being sick. He can't help himself thats why no one trust what he says.

it's "fleas," pops.
and i gave my lineup just like everyone else did LOL. aldrich over dalembert and bargnani (hold your nose and pray) over stoudemire.
but since you like to pile on after the whistle, i will assert this: <meh>lo's contract is ridiculous and disgusting. he is a pretty good scorer-- no argument there-- but close to a zero-sum player because he is inadequate as a defender.
maybe the triangle helps his game become more legit, especially as a ball over and occasional playmaker. but he'll never be the mvp of a title team. are you kidding me?
and then there's those shoulders....

No I can't change his mind. Someone with that much hate for someone is sick. I just feel like some guys put up positive thread here that have nothing to do with Melo and he changes the tone of the conversation and the next thing we know is its all about Melo. That is wrong.

I give shump an edge over smith because he is a great perimeter defender that could make up calderon's defensive mistakes. he has to shoot better obviously and I hope with a healthy summer he has been practicing his shot. I think he might get traded before the season though.
