yellow ... you are one of my hero posters, you know that.
you got smoked in this one
you think so? You are probably right.
I expected more movement from the players. I aso expected more from Melo with his passing. Melo has disappointed me though but I thought I would see more flashes from the players when teams try to zone Melo. Instead they stand around. What I hate from Melo is the double pump fake pass from the post and the 5-6 passing windows he misses on the baseline cuts.
I think thats why he said you got smoked in this one...you actually expected Melo to become a team player.
No system can change the way players are.....even when they run it to a tee eventually they all revert.

I don't doubt Melo actually convinced himself he would change his game. People kid themselves all the time about changing their ways. This just happens to be an instance where it is under a public microscope. Nobody cares if I break my vows and order a pizza.
And I have thought for a couple of months now that Phil drank his own kool-aid. He may have actually believed he would wave a wand and take Melo to another level. But he can't.
You know what I find odd....this offense has Melo average what he normally does for his career. Kinda he didnt improve at all so far.

I expected Melo to be a more willing passer and I also expected the offense to be run better. Both Melo and the system have not meet my expectations thus far.

Too far in the game for a player to change their spots. Melo has the skill but has never been willing. Despite having Calderon and Pablo on the floor sometimes...he still brings the ball up. he isnt doing this to pass.

Melo never had the IQ to do it. I tried to warn everyone. 12yrs doing it his way. He wasn't changing
Anyone recall the thread I started about Phil's Hubris?
It was pretty damn unpopular at the time, but now I believe it can be seen in a different light. I do think Phil convinced himself he would nudge Melo to up his level and to make the sacrifices on the court necessary to play a better brand of ball.
Or it could be that the more cynical interpretation is more true which is Phil cashed in on his reputation. $60M is an insane deal really. Phil may have been willing to sell ice to eskimos for that money and puff up Melo as part of his sales pitch to both Melo and the public.
Melo is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Phil probably convinced him he would transform into a butterfly.
And the public was desperate and Dolan did what he always does and made the expensive purchase. Phil played along.
Either way, the fantasy that Melo could change looks like it is finally discredited as I knew it would be.
Phil is next in line to be roasted. He looks like he deserves it too.

thats baloni - he has the IQ, he just has too much of a hard time passing up his own shots.
there were passes that DCousins was making yesterday when the double was coming that I pray for Melo to make

There's different kinds of stupid at play here. Sure, Melo can make the passes he should make and there is no cognitive function preventing him from doing so.
His stupidity is on a grosser level where he cannot see the forest for the trees. The trees are those yummy shots he wants for himself. But he can't see the forest at all it seems. When it comes to having the bird's eye view of reality, Melo is a complete moron.
If Melo really wanted to draw doubles and dish for assists, he could bank multiple 10 assist games every season with a couple dozen games over 6 assists and average around 5.5 assists per game probably. His talent level would allow that. He has a pretty good ability to deliver a pass when he is of the right mind to do it.

Cousins has a higher IQ than Melo. Cousins uses his entire skillset nightly. Cousins is dumb mentally not related to basketball.
But he aint that dumb he hates the fact his coach got canned.
Melo didnt stick up for Woodson not once.
IQ & motor for both ends of the floor. Two things Phil completely overestimated about Melo in comparison to Jordan & Kobe

Dont recall him comparing to jordan, but i definitely recall no one can compare to kobe's mindset.

Yeah, but his opposing man is in the 95/60/50 club!

Nash could not defend either though he still won two MVP's and was in the 90/50/40 club. Calderon is a putrid defender but hopefully they figure out how to hide him.
Never forget how bad JLin made him look in Toronto.
I am happy that we won't have another dumb chucking PG.
I don't think Calderon is in the 90/50/40 club anyway. Last year, his FT was .825 and 2 point FG% was .464. Career-wise, he's closer but he still doesn't have the FT%
REALLY??? GTFO!!! I'm tired of your pointless nitpicking. Cheer the F up already. We got a better player PERIOD!!! WTF is wrong with you? I can't stand the whining and complaining. Right now this team is in a better position than it was last year. We have some improvements to the roster and we have a clearer cap situation and our pick next summer. Literally the best BB mind we could hope to get in Phil and he's already making a difference. Looks like a nice new coach who is excited and pumped about the job. The players like Fish and seem to respond to him already. WHAT IS THERE TO BITCH ABOUT??? Sure we can have some questions and have yet to see things fully play out, but it's a much better situation now than we were in last year.

Oh man you are funny bonn
Would anyone be upset if Phil traded Calderon for Thaddeus Young?
