why trade him? if calderon gets hurt, then who will be the starter at pg?
fishmike @ 8/6/2014 10:17 AM
agree... althought I hope Larkin wins the backup job Prigs is a nice player to have from a depth standpoint. Im not sure if we are 'thin' up front or just hard to predict. I mean who knows what you get from Amare/Bargs and those are two starter/rotation guys. Dalembert is good but has his own issues. Smith is a nice mobile big who was hurt most of the year. Cole can fill out the stat sheet but if he's up against an athletic big who can score he's picking up a foul every 2 minutes.

Toure Murray would be back in the fold.

Murry or Thanasis.

Prigs is a nice, underrated player.

He doesn't shoot, he can't defend the position with any kind of consistency, yes he's a smart player, and he's good for a steal here and there with his full court press.I just dont see how keeping three pg's is a good idea, like beno, one will always feel he should be playing more than the other.

Bonn1997 @ 8/6/2014 10:42 AM
2 or 3 PGs is normal. Most teams have 5-6 backcourt players and 6-7 front court players.

3 PGs is normal, the problem is they really can play anything besides the 1. If you play 2 of those guys together in very common 3 guard sets it makes the Knicks super small. I could see Larkin and Calderon together a bit with Calderon playing off the ball, but man they better be scoring because thats a weak backcourt, although Calderon did alot of that playing next to Monta last year.

Problem is you really want to play Prigs if he's here, but you really want Larkin to get the minutes because he's a legit prospect.

More a rotation issue than a depth issue IMO

Triangle is not so PG-centric in the traditional sense and thus options exist. JR smith, Shump and of course at the moment Larkin can all do it.
mreinman @ 8/6/2014 11:04 AM
there is nobody happier than prigs that woody is gone. The guy healthy can be very valuable if guys are actually moving.

I agree. Also these are both expiring deals(Pablo partial guarantee) and both guys seem like good fits. Something probably happens though. Remember Felton was told by Jax that he was going to be traded. Packaged with Tyler, the Knicks could take back a guy making a little over 5 mil.

good post. Its the total x-factor that is hard to predict and very exciting about this fall. You have to figure some guys will have a few struggles, but this should benefit more than it hurts. For all we know Prigs and Calderon start together. God who knows... but you have to feel good about Fisher getting guys involved, especially after the teaser preview that the summer league was.

I'm indifferent on Prigs. My main issue with him is that he always hesistates to take shots while open. Therefore you don't really need to guard him a lot of times, and that can disrupt the offense. For a guy who is such a vet he shouldn't hesistate- when he's open he's gotta knock those shots down. I like him defensively- he's a pest and can pressure the ball. Overall Prigs has some value, but I think Larkin will impact the game more as a reserve.

Agree with every word. Much rather see Larkin as the primary backup PG. Gives a nice contract to Calderon's game. Prigioni gives you more Calderon only he's not nearly as good. I like Larkin a lot as a different look coming in with the 2nd unit.

Playing guys token minutes fcks up chemistry, you can't play guy 10 and 15 minutes for the sake of giving them playing tme, thats what killed woody

The answer to that is we'll find someone. We're running the triangle anyway. No worries.

agree.. Im in favor of an 8 man rotation, with the 9th guy being someone like Cole or Smith as an extra big when a guy is foul trouble etc.

big question is who wins the backup PG? That guy could play a lot of minutes with Calderon being older and can also slide to the SG a bit if we play 3 guards.

BRIGGS @ 8/6/2014 6:18 PM
This guy's 37-8 years old--who G a F if we keep him? If w can turn it into a younger asset either player or pick remove his nearly 2mm + cap hold next year--thats a win.

+1

IMO, Prigs is going to benefit playing under this new offense.
