Acy is a better player than Tyler. Now that we have him, I'd like to see Acy developed into a Mike Scott/Marcus Morris type of player. He has just as much talent as either of those guys -- much more offensive potential than what we've seen up to this point. It just needs to be tapped and honed. I hope the Knicks feel that way.

he's in the right place. Early is mostly a scorer. THjr is only a scorer. Larkin is an offensive player who gets steals. The roster has a need for that lunch pale guy who defends and runs down all those lose balls. I think Acy has a great opportunity here based on his skill set.
We traded 2 offensive players for 2 defensive players....it's that simple
If you read between the lines....you can see a quick philosophy change with phil. Instead of surrounding melo with half court offensive players, he's surrounding melo with transition types and defense energy players. It's really that simple.....While managing the 2015 salary so that we are big players in the 2015 free agency.
Ellington/ Tyler for Acy/ Outlaw is a good example of this MDA / Woody cultural change....
And yes Outlaw has lost a step or two...but he's still a better defender than the guys we traded away.

I wonder if we can sign Tyler to our D-league team after he is waived by Sac. The kid needs to get consistent minutes if he is going to improve and he wasn't going to get them here.
Phil kept talking about how chit the culture was at the end of last year. It is no surprise he wanted a spirited defender on the roster. He may only have minimal in-game impact however this is the type of deal that improves the intensity at practice.

I couldn't disagree with the bold more. End of bench guys can become key contributors. Patty Mills comes to mind immediately... as does Victor Cruz, Jeremy Lin, and Mats Zuccarello... and these are just-end-of-bench guys who become much more on the teams I follow

You gotta give phil credit where credit is due. Most GMs and even our past management would just tank this season and put all their eggs in one basket...just to land one big fish in 2015. Phil is doing both long term planning and short term improvements. Players are not coming to play with just melo...he doesn't have the same attractiveness to other nba players like Lebron. But when you are a free agent in 2015, and you have a solid team of above average players....A star or co-star in melo....And a phil jackson championship culture. ...with the opportunity to be that missing link to make history in the biggest market in the nba.....that's a major selling point.
Vs saying, hey we have melo....wanna play with us. 
Don't let us make noise this year, that's going to only help....
In watching the videos, Acy looks far better than Tyler. I was one of the people who liked Tyler, but I was disappointed with his summer league play. He just did not dominate like you would expect. He needs a better motor. Acy looks like he is ready to play right now and contribute. Ellington is a solid player, but he was redundant, and Acy looks like he has a decent 3pt shot, so he fills the need for another shooter and he can also defend and rebound. It was a solid trade in my opinion. Not as good as the 1st trade Phil did, but still a solid deal.

I love the ex girl analogy.
When you have a girl friend, you rarely look at here flaws, and just concentrate on her positives and pontential. When she is your ex, her negatives are higher than her positives. Thats human nature. Gives you the justification you need, so that you can move on. Otherwise, you will be like these other dudes that can't get their ex off thier minds, and either kill themselves or do something stupid that impacts their entire life.
Tyler and Elington were great when they were on the team. But now that they are gone, we can highlight their negatives and move on...It's a natural thing to do to justify the move, so that it doesn't keep you up all night. Not sure why the end of the bench guys get so much attention, but only in NYC....Where basketball passion runs deeper than any other sport!

Agreed. Solid deal. What's constant with Acy is his toughness/hustle/rebounding, etc., but what's really intriguing is his offensive game. I've seen the same clips -- posted some of them earlier in this thread. Looks like there's a lot of untapped potential offensively. He can shoot, he can put it on the floor and get to the rim very quickly and he finishes with AUTHORITY. Dude makes his FTs too...I'd like to see him developed to the fullest now that we have him. No reason why he can't become an even better version of Mike Scott or Marcus Morris. The talent is there for that.
I gave Tyler a shot -- he just didn't do it for me. There were a few glimpses but he just didn't do enough. The one game that really did it for me last year: a game in Boston, we may have been w/o Chandler. Aldrich, Earl Clark and Tyler all played. Aldrich and Clark really distinguished themselves that night; Tyler didn't. More of the same -- typical bonehead plays, too many bad/unnecessary fouls, no impact offensively or defensively, etc...Just no impact on the game whatsoever. Not sure if anyone else recalls the game (it was a game we won)...I remember thinking, "Jesus, get this guy outta there and put Aldrich/Clark back in!" If Acy plays, he's an impact player, maybe even a high impact player the futher he's developed. Tyler had his chance -- he didn't do anything with it. Acy's gonna bring it -- that's the difference. Now that we have Acy, I might lean toward giving him some of Amar'e's minutes. As of right now, I see Quincy Acy as more a part of this team's future over STAT and as such, more deserving of the playing time. Good chance STAT's gone at the end of this coming year; Acy, barring a trade, will be back the following year...I wanna see this guy Acy developed to the fullest. See how it goes.

Acy is a role player so in the end this isn't a big deal. We don't even know how much he'll play. It's not really the point, whether he's actually a better defender than Tyler or not. Phil likes the fit, balance of the roster and what Acy could bring to the team more than what Tyler offered and basically that's good enough for me. Phil is trying to give Fish as many tools in the toolbox as possible. Things that he believes this team will need in order to win. In the end I think we can trust his judgment more than yours so go kick rocks!!!
Phish will evaluate players DIFFERENTLY than did GrunWoody.
Thus its apparent they don't love Tyler as did the previous did.
I feel for TYler as he has to guard DeMarcus in practice.

I am not comparing Acy to the guys mentioned below, but who knows how a player who has not gotten a lot of time on the floor, but has shown a few good things, is going to eventually play if he finds a system and coach he fits in with.
How many would have predicted the eventual contributions of Starks and Mason when they came over to the Knicks based on their prior track record? Mason had not even played a college schedule in the NBA when we got him, and Starks did not even play in the NBA the year before we got him.
As for now, as others have said, Acy is a good change of pace guy who can probably do some of the things the Greek might do at some point.
Interesting that some had said he might also be a backup at the 3. Have not seen him on D enough against faster players, and from what we know, his offense is limited, but maybe they saw something new in his game during SL.
You bring in enough players, and sometimes guys you don't expect much from emerge as valuable parts of a team. Win/Win, IMO. If he is a stiff, you let him go next year- if he is a keeper, then maybe we get a decent rotation player who can give you 10-15 minutes a game.
Knicks tried to sign Eric Moreland so they had their eye open and Acy played very well on a winning team. Now we have 15 roster spots filled.
I like the move. While these aren't flashy moves, they are solid. Looks like the days of bringing star players who are past their prime and on their last legs are behind us. We are inching closer to relevancy and respectability with each of these moves.
