Knicks · Ceiling for Tony Wroten? (page 1)

With the possible STAT to Philly rumors for assets, I have been looking at Wroten who I think can be a very good player, at least a great 6th man type player, like a Lance Stepehnson/Harden/Wall like quickness/penetration/ability to finish/facilitate and could actually defend better
The deal itself isn't about getting rid of STAT or letting him expire, the $ in taxes, it is about not being REPEAT tax offenders, that will allow us to RESET this year, while having a possiblity to force a sign a trade for a Durant/Noah if CA's black book, CAA can show their powers, and if Durant/Noah have interest in coming to NYK themelves

It seems like Noah wanted CA, though it was in Chicago
With Durant it could help his endorsements going to NYK and multiply if he won in NYK and is still YOUNG to get collect those benefits as a businessman/player along with having an owner that will treat him like a KING for many more years, opening up networks for him and his future
As for Durant, I also believe Phil Jackson was already thinking about the chance that Durant could be lured when he went after Fisher then taking Durant's trainer/assistant coach

It would be great to get both players but I don't see that happening, it wouldn't be impossible to trade for one of them though, IF they pushed for it themslves like Kevin Love did by simply saying "I am not signing an extension to any team but NYK"

While looking to grab 2nd/3rd tier players in players like, as they both could be UFA's next summer

I like ALL STAR's but we also will need to find CHEAP talent as well
I think he will have a break out year so it will be unlikely that this would happen in the deadline with his ability of speed/quickenss/athleticism/penetration *being up there with Wall/Harden/Lance Stephenson he has great handle and has that STEP AND GO, with the ability to split defenses with his dribble, facilitate/pass/finish, and showed he had the potential last season in an ALL ROUND GAME
Jeff Green is a player I would like to pair with him at PG/SG, reuniting him with Durant

Yes I would love Bledsoe but realistically we need to find CHEAP TALENT with the way our team is currently constructed and we need depth, versatile/talented, and ALL STAR's *at least 1 more or a really DEEP/skilled/versatile team*

At 6-5, 6-6, possesing amazing speed/quicknes/handle/athleticism/strength
I think his ceiling is somewhere comparabled to

Harden
Wall
Lance Stepehnson

and

Worst Case being
a smarter/coachable JR Smith *without his shooting ability and off the court antics*
Though his shooting could be improved, being in the league for only 2 years, and last year was the first year he actually got to play on a rebuilding team

Would have been nice if CA decided NOT to opt out and structure his contract in a way where he would make less but get compensated in other area's while building a LEGIT contending team with the NYK's
However, we cannot hate the man, as he did what was best for him and his family/future

We are thinking as fans of NYK's and the NBA itself but we also don't know the cost expense/life style of being in his shoes

Preferablly, we need to get rid of any salaries that are beyond this season
While using that cap space to retool our roster

Pablo would be sent, every contract makes a difference, though his isn't fully guaranteed
All the other contracts we have are TEAM OPTIONS and JR Smith likely will opt out unless he suffers a signifigant injury

It would be mainly STAT, if he plays well, along with some other players/talents, we might not even need to part with a 1st rounder, using it to starphuq in the summer instead

add in Jason Kapono who was a Laker in the Triangle as a development/shooting coach

I think Kapono/Peja are one of the better 2 best pure shooters of all time that could be available that have not been away from the game for too long
Reggie Miller should be up there but he probably gets paid more with less stress/work as an analyst

Ask Jeff Van Gundy, who could be one of the better coaches in the League today but would much rather enjoy the freedom that he has now and drive a Honda Civic

No team offers him a salary starting close $6mil

Probably half that if he's fortunate

I think he opts in and plays for 2016 FA

He needs multiple yrs of

Good soldier underneath his belt

He received no offers when he was a free agent this past contract

And this was coming off his supposed best season

When his MLE contract expired in Denver during the lockout season

He received no offers and had to play in China

There isn't a market for Smith

I think we know this, as well as himself

So which guard gets moved between

Smith-Shump-Jr to take a flyer on Wroten

STAT's expiring is the main piece, as rumored...

For the next couple of years,
Philly is looking to collect talent, asset's, keeping salary low to sign players/talents/all star's *possibly through trade like Houston did with Harden/D12

This year
Philly is going through the process rebuilding, development, and allowing the #1 pick recover/develop along with investing in the development of MKW and Noel
They are looking to get more ping pong balls but with their low salary, they can absorb salaries *still get back $ in trades of up to 3m + in each deal from teams, the most possible a team could use*

Of course we need to throw incentives in there, anyone on the roster is expendable
Anyone can improve their current values, including JR Smith

Tim Hardaway JR likely will have the most value

Thanasis *likely won't make a roster spot but comparable to Pierre Jackson with how his value could grow despite NOT playing in the NBA*

All these guys above have value and especially with the rookie contract and lower salary players
They just are not game changers and players that you bring you to the next level
However, with the right talent/all star's/system/coach team mates they can be good players for many more years

but

I would look to move any contracts that go beyond this seasons if we do throw in a 1st rounder *and it would be no earlier than 2020*

So Pablo/JR Smith *player options* would look to get rid of them, though I think JR Smith will come in with the mindset he had before he got this contract and had his career year

Wroten has not displayed anything consistently to even think about making a trade for. Even though the Knicks guards have problems they are all better players with probably more potential. Like I said in another thread. Wroten is a worse version of Shump because he doesn't play as good of D. So far Wroten has shown an inability to score at the rim at a high level. We know who else has that problem. Then throw in the poor shooting overall and the poor ft shooting and you have a very bad scorer. He does rebound pretty good for a 2 and can dish out some ast but right now the guy is playing himself into Europe/china.

The best thing he has going for him is size and athleticism. He had so much potential as a H.S. recruit but has never learned to shoot.

Durant will go to Washington as a FA...book it.

But Noah would be really sweet, especially if it's at a discount to play in NYC with Melo.

And snagging Wroten in a Stat deal would be a nice start. I agree we need building blocks in addition to stars. Probably need to wait until after we secure our second stud before committing any salaries. Flexibility > moves at this point.

NOT saying you are wrong
With the logic you said, you are basing your evalution on what they did, not what they can do

So JR Smith at the time, was a complete steal
Harden was a complete bust/overpaid for by Houston
Lin was worth every penny
Rookies are rarely worth extending on potential

By the time Wroten shows he is a steal, HE WON'T be on the market for the price that is attainable

Wroten and Shump are completely different players, I don't understand your logic in even comparing the 2, on top of Woodson's lack of system/development to justify it
Wroten clearly shows he has speed/quickness/handle while Iman concentrated on DEF, playing G/F on a swithing DEF that had him defend PF many times in Woodson's system more than PG
On OFFENSE, with basically NO SYSTEM, Iman was used to spread the floor and wait while CA, JR Smith, STAT, or AB got their shot off

Iman was utilized the worse way possible for his career in Woodson's system, on top of his career changing injury,
He is NOT a SF, he needed to bulk up and get stronger to make up for his size, instead of working on his speed/quickness/handle and DEF on G's because we were stacked at PG/SG in the 2 seasons after Dantoni left
Iman needs to play in an uptempo OFFENSE with players that MOVE THE BALL and PLAY AS TEAM, knowing how to play TEAM DEF and capable of doing so as well
That was where he showed his potential in his rookie year with Lin/Fields being part of the team along with JJ's setting double screen's, playing DEF, and doing the little stuff that Kmart was also very successfull when healthy at doing

Ariza would never have developed to the player he has become if he stayed a Knick and would not be in the league today if he did, with Renaldo Balkman somewhere
While he isn't AN ALL STAR, he could be a very important role player as 4th-5th option on contending team, excelling at his role like he did on the Laker's as the 7th-9th man with the versatile players they had
He was a key part to one of their rings and probably could have won more had they kept him instead of going for MWP

Ariza was a great FIT with Gasol/Odom and even Kobe taking attention of him
My point in bring Ariza in to the arguement is FIT, Iman has yet to play with a TEAM outside of his 1st year that FIT his skill set, along with proper development

Not sure there are other ways to get compensated other than salary. In regards to not opting out, opting out is the smart thing for players to do if they can get more money and more years. Look at Paul George. He may never be the same. Careers can end on one play.

Tony Wroten is probably my favorite young player in the nba. I think he's going to blossom but just like guys like Bledsoe and isaiah Thomas, the knicks would need to pounce on him now before the kid finally takes that next step. Philadelphia already has a big point guard in Carter-Williams. They don't have the proper minutes for him.

I would trade Shump for Wroten asap....Wroten could be our stud pg for the future.

To add....Philly has a scary young roster.

Embiid, Noel, McDaniels, MC-W, Pierre Jackson, Casper Ware, Jeremi Grant.... They actually need Shump, and with the Addition of Shved, they already replaced Wroten....

Can't believe they got Grant in the second round. I think he s going to be really good. Some Sixers fans are pissed about the Thad trade though. Hinkie said he wasn't moving Thad. The team needs some vets.
