Could rondo fit into the triangle offense?
Why and why not?
The Triangle is a very flexible offense and basically you want shooters at every position and skilled offensive players overall. This is because all the permutations of the Triangle can lead any player to be open at various areas of the floor. So you want players who feel comfortable scoring inside, midrange or from 3 pt range. Rondo isn't a pure shooter but he is great attacking the hoop. Phil has tended to have great shooters at the PG spot with the exception of Ron Harper and Brian Shaw. So YEAH Rondo could play in the Triangle. He'd be the opposite of Jose but Phil has proven he can make it work with either type of PG. The purest version of the Triangle is when you have a legit shooting threat at the PG spot since its the PG who cuts to the corner to create space in forming the Triangle, but as I said its a flexible system and can be tweaked to work even without a shooter at PG.
Teams purposely back off him on offense. That creates a spacing issue. The triangle is all about spacing and team play.
Rondo wouldn't be comfortable playing off the ball. So I wouldn't bring him here to be miserable. On the flipside he would be great rolling to the basket and switching off to the two man game. His defense and leadership would be great too. Wrong system for him though
Potentially but even when healthy, he's overrated. We'd have to give up too much in a trade or too much money in free agency to get him
Scottie Pippen didn't become much of a perimeter threat until much later in his career. In fact, during the Bulls first 3 championship runs, Pippen never shot above 31% from 3 and only shot in the 30% range once. Maybe Rondo can fill that kind of role at the point. Though I am skeptical of Rondo's ability to fit because he might be useless if he isn't constantly pounding the ball. As a result, I think we'd be better served pursing Dragic even though I'd have reservations about throwing big money at a guy without much of a distinguished track record beyond last season and who will be turning 30 by the time we'll be eligible to sign him.

I dunno -- good player and we could make use of him if he's healthy I suppose but for my money I'd rather see us target Eric Bledsoe.

Agreed. If the Knicks can get Bledsoe for a decent price I'd be happy.
As I posted above Phil made the Triangle work with Ron Harper and Brian Shaw at PG and neither were great shooters. Rondo's D and other qualities would be emphasized and really the system is so much more flexible than people realize. I don't see Rondo ending up here tho.
PG can be minimized in the Triangle. Jose would be perfect if he defended at a decent level. Prigs is old but defends well and I expect Larkin to be a solid 2 way player.
