ESPN is specifically recruiting Melo haters to do the ratings!
Ha!
I don't really have a problem with his positioning- I think people can make cases for him to be slightly higher or slightly lower. What bothers me is the same thing that bothered me a couple of years ago- they say the reason why Melo is marked down is lack of playoff success and defense, but then they go and rank Kevin Love higher- at least be consistent in your reasoning. It's not so much I think melo is too low, but rather Kevin Love is too high until he;s proved he can be part of a winning team and can win in the playoffs.
Like I said earlier these polls are just favorite players, and I don't have problem with that if they are honest about it- just don't go claiming it's anything other than that.
I'm sure that's just one of many factors that actually influence the ratings, and they don't post everything.
Anyway, they have lots of writers giving their ratings. Then one author interprets why the players ranked where they did and writes an article. Maybe he just guessed wrong as to why Melo was ranked where he was.

Cleanthony is ranked 322 hasn't played
A single game in the NBA yet
How did they come to this conclusion
Shane Larkin is ranked right next to Landry Fields
290 and 293 respectively
With Shane having an uptick while Fields a downtick

But what if he ends being Top 5?
He has a resume of a Top 5 right?
Then it would not be credible.

you wouldnt be happy unless he was ranked 1
Nah, it's ESPN publishing this. If he's even top 20, I'll be more than surprised. KG will probably be ranked higher, along with Paul George, Paul Pierce, Lance Stephenson... by golly, someday Melo might even reach Gallo level if he keeps his weight down!

What I found bizarre a year or two ago was one of the criticism of Melo was his lack of defense and playoff success (fair enough), but then they ranked Kevin Love higher!
KLove's more efficient. Oh wait, he's not.

Let's not get carried away now.

True. Even being slimmer, his stupid quotes make everyone around him more dumb.
Ha- CBSports are doing their top 100 players, and once again Melo makes 12 (fair enough), on the logic that he doesn't play defense. Meanwhile Kevin Love is top 10!

If you had two players that do not play defense wouldn't you rate the one that is better at offense higher than the other one? No weather you think Melo is an average defender and Love is a below average defender which means they should be about the same overall is a different story.

I'd mark Kevin Love down on account of the fact he's never been to the playoffs as well as the lack of defense

These ranking are based on actual talents right
Otherwise how does Wiggins crack near Top 100
Having never played a single NBA game
These rankings are for the most part, exclusively
Looking at the attributes of the player
Not too much more than this
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/117418...
Does ESPN really hate Melo-Knicks/////Doubt it
I think one year Melo was ranked 17th
Last year he was ranked 15th
This year he's moved up to 11th
What he has never been is Top 10 or Top 5
That is so prevalently thrown around in these neck of the woods
I had him ranked at 15, which isn't too bad of judgement

Absolutely correct, it's based on talents, but also teirsof position. For instance, Dwight will continue to make top 10 as long as he is the best center in the NBA.
But using things like playoffs isnt a good narrative, plenty of good players dont make the playoffs. Thats a team accomplishment.
Let's just cut straight to who number 1 is on the ESPN ratings list: LeBron James. Stephen Curry is in top 10 if he hasn't already been listed. I didn't bother to check. Kwame Brown's at no.2 because of the important contribution he gives to the game of Basketball and any organization that he's a part of. The man is a future Hall of Fame player. He's up there with the very best like Sam Bowie and Benoit Benjamin
Okay so ESPN ranks Kevin Durant 8th
Because of foot injury, yet/////
Paul George appear to probably[haven't seen him ranked]
Finishes ahead of him in rankings
So Top 10
James
Love
Blake
Curry
CP3
WestBrook
Paul George
Durant
Harden
Howard
Love at number 2. Brilliant. Must be he looks so much more fierce on defense next to LeQ and Kyrie.
I bet his playoff success quotient is off the charts now.

Love isn't #2 I was listing who hadn't been ranked yet
But Griffin came in at #5
So that leaves 4 players left
I was figuring Paul George may crack but
He probably won't be ranked because of his injury
So a player that escaped my mental thought was Anthony Davis
So there you have your Top 4
James
Westbrook
CP3
Anthony Davis
