Knicks · Anyone think Melo is yapping to much? (page 1)

I'm already tired of hearing from this guy. Just wish he would STFU and focus on Basketball. It was nice quiet summer for a change and this guy can't shut the hell up. Doesn't he understand that the media is playing him. Just play basketball focus on the task at hand which is to win a championship. Once he does that who cares if your underrated overrated or x-rated. He has an opportunity to be a basketball God in NYC.

Melo needs a PR guy. He really needs to say something but nothing like Derk Jeter or Eli Manning you can't go wrong with that approach. I can imagine Jeter getting that question from reporters and his answer would have been very simple. Jeter would have said that's for the fans to decide I'm just here trying to win games that my only concern.

gunsnewing @ 10/3/2014 9:31 AM
Let's hope Melo has the best season of his life on the court because of the court he is an embarrassment. He can't go one training camp without saying something ridiculously stupid

What is suppose to say, "No comment" I'm mean dude this is the media capital of the world. Melo is not Eli or jeter (who both have multiple champonships), they don't get hit with question like "Do you think your on Lebron and KD's leverl?" Then when is answers. " I think i can be a little underrated sometimes but I don't worry about that" Within an Hr is Headline news. "MELO SAYS HIS A UNDERRATED STAR"..

Like the coach saying to Amare, Hey STAT why don't you shut down for the last half, we'll roll again this evening. 2hrs later headline News "Amare SITS OUT LAST HALF HR OF PRACTICE Knee Issues"

DON'T DON'T DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE

knickknack @ 10/3/2014 9:44 AM
Melo isn't stupid. He's simply taking a page out of LBJ's book, he makes statements to get people talking, whether what they're saying is good or bad doesn't matter it still builds your brand and makes you more mainstream, think Richard Sherman.

What do you mean they don't get hit by questions like that? Did Eli get hit with do you think you are an elite QB. He did and answered it then got ridiculed for it and then backed it up with a Super Bowl win.

Anyone think the NY media (see Frank Isola gossip column) is yapping too much about what Carmelo says?

sheesh

EnySpree @ 10/3/2014 10:11 AM
Melo answers questions from his heart. Its not in him to not answer a question from his heart. I wish he would stfu too but he can't. I'd like to day that comes from his Puerto Rican blood.

On The flipside, he does handle himself well of the court. He's a good guy

How dare he answer the media's questions! Do you really prefer it when all any athlete says is PR approved crap? How much is he allowed to speak, in your opinion? You realise he only does one 4 to 5 minute interview each day?

Word play is their job. Melo's job is to be a basketball player. Be smart enough to avoid answering questions that end up making him look bad or be controversial. I agree with you I'm not a media fan I think the media wants the Knicks to suck rather than win makes for headlines. If the Knicks are winning they look to cause dissension to bring them down. It's up to Melo and the entire team for that matter to not give them material. It's not just the game on the court there is a cat and mouse game off the court that affects what you do on the court.

I think Melo off the court might be the nicest guy in the world. He should know by now that his words have an affect on the team. He needs to be more calculated when speaking to the media. What's the saying think before you speak. I'd like Melo to approach the media somewhat of an enemy and not so much as a medium for self endorsement.

Nalod @ 10/3/2014 11:25 AM
He spoke on Media day. Its called MEDIA DAY!!!!!!!
mreinman @ 10/3/2014 11:26 AM
Melo should learn how to shut his dumb pie hole

It should be renamed "Melo makes a fool out of himself Day" because he does it every training camp

Yeah. People should just leave inane stupid comments to ...board posting!

How do you know that?
(my mistake if you were being facetious)

He can answer any question he wants, but he should stick to a script - rather than guarantee a championship, guarantee effort, etc.

Don't say more than needed, and the media will move on.

No they won't- they'll invent a story out of anything- they'd just ask him "will you win a championship this season" and if he says yes, they'd make a story out of that ("Melo guarantees championship!") and if he said no they'd make a story out of that ("Melo thinks Knicks stink!").

I hate how no one can say anything to the media without it being blown out of proportion. Is it really a big deal if a player thinks they're great? The fake outrage about everything just means no one bothers saying anything other than PR fluff and cliche's- it's just boring.

What point are you getting at here

What's Jeter's PR team up to these days? Melo, make a call...

Headlines are exciting, but the actual story is usually boring. Whatever, let's see some basketball!

GustavBahler @ 10/3/2014 2:38 PM
It was a dumb thing to say, but its not as bad as JR's talk about how great he is, guaranteeing to a bunch of kids that they would make the playoffs last season, in spite of his playoff performances, multiple suspensions, off the court behavior etc..

Certainly not as bad as Ewing's frequent championship guarantees which he never delivered on, including a victory in game 6 of the 2000 ECF, missing his last 6 shots.

Hopefully its lesson learned for Melo.

Really??? Melo seems to be a guy who stays out of the papers for any negative issues (criminal investigations, twitter missteps, baby mama drama) what exactly has he done that's so embarrasing to you???

nixluva @ 10/3/2014 3:30 PM
Man who the heck cares what he's saying really? This is a very important season. It's the start of a new way of doing things and we need Melo to be at his best playing in this style cuz if he does, not only do we win more games but a possible FA will see this as a good spot to come and play. Everyone is gonna be watching to see how Melo adjusts to this style of play. In a month or so we won't talking about what Melo said during Training Camp.
