Its just takes time in NBA... you know salary cap, contracts... other little consequences..

Don't put too much into what you're seeing in this preseason game. This was more about Fish getting a look at certain things.

What I take away is that I want to see Wear get Outlaws spot cuz I don't think Outlaw really gives us anything of value. I like Acy and his energy. Can't wait to see Shump and Jason in the mix.

Wear showed us he wanted it in SL

As far as Fish and this team and time

I was one of the first that said the triangle

Offense is not an easy offense to run citing Kobe's comments

It takes quick thinking high IQ players to execute this

And talent of course, we have huge gaps in both

It's not a secret that a system as different as the Triangle is gonna take some work to get used to. IMO anyone coming into this game expecting perfect execution wasn't being realistic. There's such a long way to go in this season.

I like what I saw from some of our kids tho. Good energy.

Papabear Says

I have not posted in a long time. I just wanted to see a little bit of the first game. I know that it is the first game and we have 3 major problems. 1. We can't shoot and 2 we still can't defend and 3 We are just too slow. I will be surprised if we made the play-offs. This is a throw away season and they know it and the way teams are signing their stars there won't be much left to pick from next season. They looked very confused tonight. Maybe they are not smart enough to play the triangle.

Hardaway and Wear contributed nicely

Hardaway needs to focus more on his defensive fundamentals

Wear played up to advertisement

People really need to calm down on the doom and gloom. It's so early and it was clear Fish was using this game to try stuff. No one should be put off by any of this. If they came out clicking on all cylinders it still wouldn't mean much. We won't really know what this team is about for a while longer.

They should get faster and more relaxed as they move along. I actually saw some good signs amidst all the sloppiness. They have to grow as a unit and that will take a little time. It was good to see them actually play. Let's just not get too carried away off one game.

I don't think we came into this game wanting to win, You will never have any chemistry playing all those players.
There's no reason whatsoever to play more than 10 11 guys in a preseason game. All you get is confusion and turnovers.

Play your bonafide 9 starters, and switch the last 2 players every game.

Actually the time to try crap out is in. Preseason game. Fish said he was gonna look at different lineups so this was the game to do that. This is why in most cases you can't put too much weight on preseason.

Im sure they came in trying to win--EVERY team uses 13-15 players in the first 3-4 pre season games. Yes it does not count but what does count is leaving so many guys open not getting back on D our PG physically look awful--we'll be able to operate with Calderon and Prigs but maybe we can look at something else for the back up. Oh yea no matter what getting down 30 to the Celtics is not a good sign.

Wear was the best of the rookies and if he ends up being the best and deserving a spot--spots should be given that way--not to has a guaranteed small contract. I think Wear really is more of a 3-4 so Early needs to play much better to beat him out.

If I'm not sold on Outlaw

and you're not sold on Shane

Then Phil has lots of work to do

Like I said he needs to make a trade or two

nixluva @ 10/8/2014 11:25 PM
We shall see with these young guys. I don't think it's fair to make too many assumptions with the kids this early. I do think we can pretty much close the door on Outlaw tho. He's a known quantity and I just don't see his value over a kid like Wear for instance. Kids like Shane and Early are way too young to give up on so quick. I saw Shane play some decent ball at times in his rookie season. There were signs he could be effective. I think he just needs more development.

The same goes for Early n Acy. They've had a lot thrown at them in a short time and it will take more work to get them more comfortable. We have to also allow Fish to grow as well. He's gonna be trying things and learning as we go too. This game will provide good material to teach with.

VDesai @ 10/8/2014 11:32 PM
Its preseason. That looked like a 50% effort and more or less like a team trying to get comfortable in what amounts to a new system for everyone. Not much to say after this one.
knickscity @ 10/8/2014 11:37 PM
For me, it's preseason....I'm not taking anything from games that keep the record at 0-0. The players on the other hand along with the coaches, they know what the deal is.....
knickscity @ 10/8/2014 11:42 PM
But I gotta admit.....new year, same celtics beatdown. And I did see alot of switching defense and iso.

I saw a lot of good things, I wouldn't worry to much. If they start losing when the rotation starts to get set than that would be worrisome but this is just players getting their feet wet. Celtics I think are on their second game which puts them at an early advantage.

NumberTwoPencil @ 10/8/2014 11:54 PM
I watched tonight. (Yo! UK didn't load during the game:()

Gonna be a long Knicks year . . . more fun than last year--a low bar, I know--but still rough. I'd guess that Fisher's biggest problem is going to be Melo, at least for a while. Fisher is clearly trying to focus on fundamentals (I know, I know, it's preseason but I can't imagine Woodson running any game the way today's second half classroom exercise.) and sorting out the basics is going to take a while with this group of players.

Not to mention many of the C's are in their 2nd year with this coach. It's just a bad situation to make any serious conclusions. As was pointed out that wasn't a max effort win at all costs game. Fish was taking a look at lineups and players were getting a feel.

knickscity wrote:But I gotta admit.....new year, same celtics beatdown. And I did see alot of switching defense and iso.

Im kind of looking at the young guys and PG play. We will get "adequate play from that position" but its a soft spot on the team. Unfortunately Shane Larkin might just have physical deficiency--hes 5-9 ish with short arms and when he has to go against players with his speed--I think he will have a lot of problems. I see a lot of what I saw from early in SL--a lot of sitting on the 3 pt line. This isa time to see if anyone can add to the team and no matter what anyone says--being down 30 to the Celtics is arse bad.

Now for me atleast this team is made up of 3 squadrons bigs middle PG

Our strength is the middle Melo Hardaway JR Shumpert. I might even consider making Shumpert my back up PG. Our scoring 3 Hardaway JR and Melo can all score 20 points any given night and I think they can all be fairly consistent.

We can also score in the post--Amare is still one of the better low post scorers Bargs can score some points for sure Dalembart is good for 5-6

The team D was an eye sore but it can be shored up I believe. The hard part that I see is finding the right balance and rotation and the Knicks dont have that much time--so pre season is reasonably important.

Im wondering if we go like this

C-Amare

PF- Smith

SF Melo

SG Smith

PG Calderon

C Dalembart

PF Bargs

G/F Hardaway

PG/G Shumpert

9 deep.

I kind of like Wear as the 10th man back up SF over early. He can hit that mid range can pass rebound you can see hes smart.

smackeddog @ 10/9/2014 3:52 AM
I hope we sort out the defense over the course of preseason- I can't take another season of the opposing team shooting infinity percent- Smart shot what, 1-8 in the first preseason game, but against us he's red hot. I'm not making any conclusions from this game- we didn't really run our system at all. Very surprised by Wear though- I agree, cut Outlaw and keep Wear.
