Any of you interested in doing one of these?
I already signed up to do the Citi field race on may 9th. It's a spartan sprint race so it's 3-5 miles with 15 or more obstacles.

Just goggle spartan race and you can sift through a ton of races in your area.
There is a spartan super race coming up later in 2015 that will either be in new jersey or long island that will be at least 10 miles and 20 obstacles or more. They haven't announced that race yet but when they do I will be signing up for that as well.
I haven't been this motivated to get in shape in my life. I've had ups and downs as far as my physical fitness. I've completed 5ks, half marathons and did the urbanathalon before. I feel the need to do more than just complete a race. I'm trying to finish in the top percentage for my age group at the very least.
Anybody wit it?
Good Luck..you'll have a blast!
Haven't don't a Spartan race yet, but I have done the Warrior Dash and doing Tough Mudder on the 25th of October as well as a bunch of other smaller mud/obstacle races. This are really fun, especially with friends, and recommend everyone do it.
What are you doing to train for it?
I'm training in stages. Different focus each stage. For the next 3 months I'm trying to increase my strength and attack my weaknesses. I'm lifting heavy right. After new years I'll taper off the next 3 months and start training my endurance and really prepare for the spartan sprint. The last two months I'm going to be training for the spartan super, so the goal is to treat the spartan sprint like it's nothing but a workout for me
Lifting heavy weights is not going to help you much in a competition like this...I highly recommend you look into joining a crossfit gym. The type of workouts that they provide is exactly what you need to prepare you for the Spartan race.
I have done the one near Mohegan Sun Ct. and it was a blast. I am looking to do another one soon but I don't do the ones in the stadium. It is not as messy as the ones outdoors. My friend has done the one in Citifield. He mention the row machines and up and down the stairs is hard.
One thing I learn in doing the Spartan Race. It is alot of cardio and leg strength. When i was doing tire flips and cannon ball lifts etc there is alot of squats you have to do. There is a few upper body stuff but it is mostly legs. The thing that sap alot of my energy was the 30lb sandbags up an hill and the inverted wall.

That's part of my phase 2 plan. There's plenty of time to train for the sprint. Right now I'm taking time to build strength and strengthen weaknesses
EnySpree...Completed the Tough Mudder yesterday and, although it's not the Spartan Race (don't know which is more difficult), it was very exciting and challenging.
If I can go back and do things differently, I would have ran more. The Tough Mudder was 10.2 Miles and by mile 8, my right calf was cramping bad. By the time I crossed the finish line, my quads were shot (still a bit sore).
I still think you should focus on more crossfit/circuit course routine. More Burpess, pull-ups and core work and less bench press and bicep curls. I would also incorporate more olympic lifting and, of course, long distance running. Muscle endurance is everything!
Definitely invest in a good trail running shoe. I'm sure once you knock this one out, you'll catch the "mud run" bug and do more so don't be cheap. Protect your feet!!
Also...make sure to bring an extra set of clothe, shoes and towels. It will get messy.

Well my first race is not til May....I have a plan for my training. I'm in a strength phase now. January 1st I'll be working on my speed and explosion that will incorporate Olympic and crossfit stuff. The long distance stuff will be on going but I won't start going over 5k until april 1st.
I have experience with these races so there is a method to my planning.
Anyway, Which city did you do and what was your time in the Tough Mudder?
Yo EnySpree...you lurking around? How is the training coming along? Just completed the Spartan Sprint yesterday here North Carolina. Wasn't too bad...I think the most difficult course, for me, was going up and down a couple of small hills while carrying a bucket of rocks, for about 100 yards.
I recommend working on your cardio, more powerlifting (power cleans, squats and presses) and learn how to rope climb.
