Knicks · Most impressive team in pre season Utah (page 1)

They will improve this year.
One thing you noticed when looking at their roster is they built almost exclusively through the draft in a systematic way. It might have taken some time but they have good players at every position and they are able to build team chemistry over the last 2-3. They have a nice combination of players there

nobody ever wants to stay. Too bad for them

Agreed. I don't know how they manage to do it but they've consistently managed to draft good players. If that front office were in a bigger city, it'd be talked about as one of the best in the league. Too bad they seldom get any recognition because they are in Utah.

Utah got lots of good press when they had Stockton, Malone and Hornacek. I think when they win consistently they'll get the respect they deserve. I would hold off on making too much of preseason tho. It may just be that they're a much improved team this year but it could easily be a mirage. There are plenty of good teams that will look less impressive in preseason but be dominant in the regular season. Utah has done a very nice job of drafting solid all around players. It's not a sexy team but a solid team structurally.

Obvious they will improve like

Quite a few teams this year, Boston and Detroit

Very probable adds to the mix

They got a new coach(es), new culture, new leadership

I guess we weren't the only ones

Yes as in he went there

Utah isn't so bad blah blah blah

Booker had an opportunity to play here

He could have signed for what Jason Smith signed for

Instead he went to Utah for another yr on deal

And about $6mil more in cash

They paid those guys well. They also did really well in the D-Will trade. NJ/BK trades Favors, the picks that became Kanter and Gobert and then trades the pick that became Lillard to keep D-Will. They have a nice young team and they emphasize signing guys with character. It will be interesting to see how things go for them this year.
BigDaddyG @ 10/18/2014 1:23 AM
Finished watching them play against the clippers in a tight game. The key to their improvement is Exum. Trey Burke has trouble turning the corner on the pick and roll and his height still hurts inside the paint. He's better off the ball in Mo Williams type role, with you Exum as the lead guard. All their bugs shoot like crap also. The spacing sucks with Kanter and Favors in the floor. One of those guys is going to have to develop an out side shot.

They dont have the goods yet to be a contender but thi team is clearly in transition to become a good team soon. That Clipper team has a lot of goods.

^^conditioning hasn't been an issue for Melo in NY Not sure why you keep calling him out for it.
nixluva @ 10/18/2014 1:27 PM
Whoa! Wait a minute. Melo is not in the same category as DWill. I think it's easy to pick on Melo but this is a better situation for him to prove his doubters wrong. I think Melo is far from the biggest problem this team has had. This season will go a long way toward letting us know what we really have and what we need. PATIENCE is the best advice for this season.

Phil personally called out the entire teams conditioning prior to taking over and his last head coach demanded he be in better shape.
