Knicks · will any coach under phil's watchful eye really have control of the team? (page 1)

djsunyc @ 10/23/2014 11:27 AM
it seems everything is about phil and the triangle even tho fisher is the one on the bench that's actually supposed to be coaching them.

they may share the same philosophy but doesn't this once again blur the pecking order for any player on the team? who are they really playing for?

gunsnewing @ 10/23/2014 11:32 AM
least of my worries

To be honest, the players arent fully engaged to the triangle. There is ball movement and more passing, but the triangle really hasnt been employed much in the preseason so far.

Now I do believe Fisher is his own guy and the players are playing directly for him. Fisher imo is allowing way more than Phil would.

Pat Riley talks to his players when things aren't going well. He just does it a lot less as Spoelstra gained more experience and respect from his a
players.

I expect the same from the relationhip between Fish & Phil

down to half a roll of toilet paper again??? I told you if you buy in bulk you can quit worrying.

Phil and Fisher have to figure out what works and what doesnt. Both are leaders and support each other. They will find balance and make it work. They are commited to that.

Ditto

I'm more concerned if Fisher has

The webbles to rein in Melo-Amare-J.R.

I haven't seen any signs he's capable yet

Phil isn't a guy that is going to be a negative influence....he does have a Philosophy. Fisher is in agreement with that philosophy...it's all good in the hood
franco12 @ 10/23/2014 12:56 PM
I think you are mistaking the coach & GM being on the same page for being one of control.

It just happens that Phil has a huge rep as a coach, and that influences what we perceive.

Exactly- I think the media will be huffing and puffing about it for the first year, but like with Riley and Spoelstra, eventually they back off once the coach proves themselves.

Ditto. Its a blessing for this team to have Jackson's knowledge and experience on tap. If a player (let's say JR) falls back on bad habits, I'm pretty sure that Phil won't hesitate to have a talk with him.

Jackson has been hands off so far. The only reason Phil has been in the news is because of the Rosen article where Phil had given his scouting report before TC. He is watching and if he feels there's something he needs to say he will, but remember that Fish, Rambis and Cleamons have been with Phil so long that they pretty much already know what he wants. You can't be with a coach for a decade and not have a full understanding of how he runs a team. All the things this team does are based on how Phil ran his teams. Phil was at TC and tho he said he felt the pull to say something he didn't. Now he knows for himself that his coaches can handle it. I think this will be a non issue. Plus Phil knows this isn't the final product. He's mainly going to be evaluating and figuring out what he needs to do going forward with this roster.

the answer is the same for pre/post Phil.
