dk7th wrote:went to see the nets play the rockets last night. missed the brawl while getting some chow. harden was his terrific but smug self, head and shoulders better than anyone else on the floor. he overdribbles often, but is lightening quick. motiejunas was impressive. howard is not very good, nor smith, nor beverley. they may be in first place and playing down to the competition, but i did not see a true contender in that team.
on the nets side lopez is really not any good, and johnson is simply mr. invisible-- zero floor impact and just a dumb-looking player. the nets are really good at spending money on losing players, including williams. i liked what i saw from plumlee and bogdanovic.
Bropez is inconsistant and drives Hollins nuts because he does not do what is needed off the ball. I get he is one of the few fundamentally sound offensive players at the position but Hollins is really trying to pull the nasty out of him. Iso Joe seems to just let the game come to him. If it doesn't, he's cool with the bank. Plumlee was a great pick for them and Bogdanovic has had his ups and downs this season but comes in with good cred. This sort of mitigates the lack of picks. Teletovic the same.
Nets are smart to reboot. Given the financial considerations of what they attempted to do I put this all on the owner who had to set the directive. My take is he tried to really take the city by storm and in the end created an "arms race" to which Dolan got caught up in as well. Started with the taunting billboards and getting Melo. Dolan afraid his billion dollar renovation would be a problem and wanted his star. Nets wanted to make a big splash and if they succeeded would have caught a lot of fans. In the end the Nets turned into the "Knicks" with starphuching and KNicks are now doing what the nets should have done which was set about a more rational rebuild with the ton of assets they had and then use them to trade, or sign and trade should a player become available. Easy to say in hindsight.
The bail out for both franchises is the league is doing well and the two billion valuation on Clippers means a huge equity boost of value to knicks/nets.
Thats the business side. For the fans, we are just looking up for better days.
I take it the energy in the building sucked but did you have a good time? Any comments as to the experience in the arena? site lines? Amenities? Layout of entrances and exits?
dk7th@ 1/13/2015 10:59 AM
well the arena itself is cavernous and steep once you get above the loge level but in a cool way. the color scheme is basically grey and black and the court is beautifully lit. sight lines from our seats were awesome. i was basically in a corner "wedge" of seats diagonally back to the right of the nets bench and only a few seats back from their tunnel so i was about 20 feet above the court, close enough to hear sneakers squeaking but not close enough to hear the ball bouncing. food was not too groovy and the draft heineken was deplorable. $54 for two burgers, 1 fries, 2 beer, 2 water. staff was polite and helpful.
the only time i felt energy in the arena for the actual game was when the nets came within a basket of tying the game. that happened when plumlee and bogdanovic came in for lopez and johnson towards the middle of q2 i believe. then maybe one other time. harden knows how to take over a game pretty good, and quieted the crowd a bit. didn't help that the nets were brick-meisters. one guy, corey jefferson, did not look like he belonged on an nba squad. and another guy named darius morris-- not any good either. ball movement by the nets was deplorable.
then there's the annoying t-shirt giveaway with the dancers and tumblers. really annoying shyt. and the dance cams etc.
we left with 7 minutes to go. just ugly-ass basketball.

Is the Craptors making a comback or is the Pistons really this good without Josh Smith? They have beat some really good teams during this 9 and 1 record after the trade.

A little bit of both- I think the Craptors got inflated by their easy early schedule, Pistons are just on fire at the moment- I think they'll come back to earth, but they should make the playoffs. We kind of need them to start doing badly again- it keeps the possibility of signing Monroe alive. Not that he's my number one target, but it's nice to have options.

finding it tough to win w/o derozan. he is our all-star shooting guard. and since he's been out, lowry has been run to the ground. defense has slipped for a long stretch too. good thing is that they have some built up equity b/c of all those wins early. but now we'll see what we are made of with this 1-5 stretch. i wanted us to go .500 w/o derozan and so far, we've been on track for that.

it's like when we dumped rudy except detroit didn't add anybody new. they are playing unselfish and liberated. and jennings is playing like an all star. the league is all about confidence and momentum. most teams have talent...but it's the focus, drive, confidence and chemistry that results in good performances and now the pistons are on a sick hot streak beating alot of good teams (including the spurs). only loss in the last 9 was a 3 point one to an even hotter team in atlanta. it's not just about who you play but when you play them.

Kings looking to deal Ramon Sessions
Supposedly their target is Jordan Farmar
Wonder if this results in a 3 way with the Celtics for Rivers

I used to hate Garnett but really as his skills diminish and he no longer celtic torching us I don't care.
But today I am a fan!!! Dwight is the new douche bag of the NBA and guys really don't seem to like him. Garnett going after him was cool.
My only beef with Garnett is his comment about Charlie Villenueva looking like a cancer patient, and the rumores about his "Mothers day" comment to Duncan. BUt its just rumored, no direct quote or link to it.
Garnett is a trip. Just a stragne dude!

That Garenett and Howard fight . . . what an opportunity! That might be the only NBA fight I wish had gone on long enough for both of those guys to get thrown out of the league. They aren't my favorite players.
I don't think the Nets are as bad as their record but, ouch, they've looked awful (outside of Plumlee) recently. It's not just that Jack runs the point somewhat differently than Williams and they haven't adjusted, it's that they just don't seem to be playing as team at all. Every play, every possession, every defensive set . . . has mistakes. It's like they just aren't talking to each other or, I dunno, there's a language problem, or Hollins has given up. Lopez looks confused . . . Bogdanovic, Karasev, and Teletovic look nearly as confused . . . Johnson seems to be a team of one. I don't remember other Hollins teams looking as lost as this Nets team.

Wasn't Derozan supposed to be back last week? That injury looked like a season ending one. Can't believe he will be able to come back without surgery.

When did Cleveland turn into the Knicks. They're getting blown out again. They need to put something together in the 4th or it could get uglier.

Did he go out? He was playing earlier.

I know I said it before but Love might be the 4th option. Can you give your 4th offensive option the max if he doesn't play D? Plat needs to get it together.
good JR is back

JR score 15 pts in the last 5 min of the 3rd. If he stays away from Johnny football JR will do well in CLeveland. I think NY was too much for him. He will still be hot or cold but probably more closer to his Denver days.
