Knicks · Phil and Fisher Not So Sure (page 1)

F500ONE @ 10/30/2014 1:32 PM
"Not ready for showtime, were we guys?" the Knicks president said to reporters before getting into the passenger seat of his SUV.

Jackson's new-look Knicks struggled on both ends of the floor in their opener, hitting just 37 percent of their shots and allowing Chicago to score 42 points in the paint.

New York fell behind by as many as 35 points in the second half.

Afterward, Jackson was asked how long he thought it would take for the Knicks to be competitive in his first full season as president.

"I can't say how long it's going to take," he said.

Jackson, a 13-time NBA champion, added that he largely expected the Knicks to struggle as badly as they did on Wednesday.

"Sure did," he said.

Hired last March, Jackson spent the offseason retooling the Knicks' roster.

He replaced head coach Mike Woodson with first-year coach Derek Fisher. He also re-signed Carmelo Anthony and traded away Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that netted Jose Calderon and Samuel Dalembert.

The Knicks are implementing a new offense and have five new rotation players, so many analysts predicted that they'd struggle early in the season.

Fisher echoed those sentiments after Wednesday's loss.

"We're going somewhere," Fisher said. "But at the beginning of where we're going, it's going to be difficult to get wins. We have to fight really really hard to win games."

I think Phil's comments aren't a revelation

But an eye opener, basically saying he wasn't impressed with what he saw in preseason

And if we aren't ready for showtime

Then we're not ready to win 50gms

We also aren't ready to take the division from the Raptors

They were very careful to call this team a playoff team ala mike Woodson and for good reason

I think there is a chance we make the playoffs, mainly because the 8th team in the east will probably be a bad one. All depends on how much of a hole we dig ourselves in before things start to click. At the end of the day I'm not too bothered either way- I'd like to do well and make the post season, but if we don't we have our pick.

The biggest problem I have so far with Phil:

Why in the world would you commit 3 years and 22mm for Calderon if you are unhappy with the current personnel? So the first big move is to add salary for a slow aging player and an undersized PG? Yo no comprende. If you think you will be no good--then lay off the trades. Be opportunistic. We couldve pieced meals 1mm$ players and this team would be better WITHOUT absorbing material cap space going 4 ward.

So then if you make a move like this--answer a question

because I think it is very hard to really evaluate the talent without a floor general and Jose knows how to run an offense.

Agreed. Everyone looked better playing with Calderon including Melo, Shumpert, Sam and even Acy. Guys were getting high percentage shots in space.

They really struggled to set up the offense last night. The spacing was off and they were kicking it around the perimeter instead of accessing every option available. Calderon is a heady veteran PG. He can absorb and execute more information and options

You see when Phil and Derek explain the triangle how complex it is once it all clicks. Right now they are only comfortable with 1 or 2 phases of the triangle.

It's going to take quite a few games but having Calderon in there definitely helps speed up the process

but in the triangle - the pg doesn't run the offense.

QUID QUO PRO CLARISSE!!!

gunsnewing @ 10/30/2014 3:31 PM
You still need a PG with IQ.

The point isn't running non stop pick and roles and padding his assist totals. This is more in the sense of being a floor general which Jason Kidd was here despite not showing it in his stats.

Bingo and it's overstated and oversold as such

Case in point why did Fisher have Shumpert run point in garbage time

Why not have Pablo run point and somehow find a way

To get Shump to play the 2guard position the way he should know how to play it by now

Cuz they sure as shyt didnt want Tyson around anymore.
They got good value in the trade.
Calderone can shoot. Need shooters.
And basically you want him for his friend Marc.
Jeez, they guy is out two weeks.
His salary is very movable if need be.

Actually Tyson wanted out, the team complied. Whether they got good value is debateable, certainly not definite, unless guys dont have to produce to be considered good value. Calderon is a good shooter, but in the triangle his prowess wont be featured, and there is logic in thinking a soon to be 34 year can recruit anyone, especially if this injury is a precursor to him showing his true age. As far as a trade goes, who needs a pg? not too many, pretty muich every team has one and a decent one at that.
