Knicks · Predict the new starting 5 vs Charlotte (page 1)

fitzfarm @ 10/31/2014 9:50 AM
I think Sammy is out...

I think it will be ether cole or jason smith

I would like to see
Cole
Acy
Melo
Shump
Larkin

Fish subs so quickly so I guess it really doesn't matter who starts... I wouldn't mind seeing amare get the nod at pf... But cole is so good at rebounding we need him out there for 25 30 a night

gunsnewing @ 10/31/2014 9:54 AM
If Sam is out Id like to give Jason a chance. The starting lineup could use his efficient jumper. Cole will play a big role off the bench
chewy @ 10/31/2014 10:12 AM
We need Dal vs Jefferson. His defense is still key
nychamp @ 10/31/2014 10:15 AM
I'm not sure Dalembert is "out". It seems that Fisher is going to mix and match on a game-to-game basis, based on matchups. I think he said as much himself.

I don't know if he's done but I dont think he starts

mreinman @ 10/31/2014 11:37 AM
Sammy is not better defensively (and rebounding) than cole
JesseDark @ 10/31/2014 11:42 AM
Don't know who is in/out of the starting lineup, but its refreshing to see a coach use his players and not just stick with the vets. I am so use to our head coach sticking with the vets and saying ,"they give us the best chance to win blah..blah.blah."

If Sammy goes to the bench he would lift the second string defense with his shot blocking and intimidation.

jrodmc @ 10/31/2014 1:23 PM
There are no reports of Sammy being hurt, and I think it's just a matter of DFish making an in-game change. Kuoos to the new coach.
I still think Cole has to show some more before he starts. I don't get the sense that he protects the rim and the paint as well as Sammy at this point.
That said, it will only be a matter of time before Sammy pulls a hammy or something. Then it won't matter.

Just please, don't give me Stat at the 5 for more than 6 minutes at a stretch.

Nalod @ 10/31/2014 1:52 PM
Start the guys based on geographic origin like Larry Brown did!!!

I think he is better defensively. Cole is a better rebounder. Sam is also a very good passer and can hit an open shot that isn't a dunk/put back.
gunsnewing @ 10/31/2014 6:29 PM
I love Cole but some of the comments on Cole are a little extreme. You would think we are talking about a blue chip number one overall pick. He is a great 3rd stringer on this team.

Actually all 3 centers are interchangeable and bring different skills to the table

babyKnicks @ 11/1/2014 6:23 AM
Agreed cole infatuation is kind of weak.

Dalembert
Amare
Melo
Shump
Larkin

Book it.

I think this is the line up unless Dalembert's calf is still sore.

every time he is in the game good things happen. He is very underrated.

dk7th @ 11/1/2014 10:13 PM
dalembert-- passing skills are pretty undeniable so he's good for just getting the offense going and people into it. aldrich should get some increased minutes.
acy-- defense and rebounding and energy is contagious for running mates and people rotating in
melo
shumpert
larkin

prigioni is the best pick and roll point guard and yes the pick and roll is the clock winding down option in the triangle
stoudemire-- still a great finisher in pick and roll
aldrich or jason smith
jr smith
travis wear deserves 8 minutes a game

Splat @ 11/1/2014 10:55 PM
The way Fish is going, starting does not mean most minutes.

What will be interesting is if he starts different groups based on nightly matchups or if he solidifies the same starting five.

I'd think most matchups probably require defensive and passing ability as the primary criteria, particularly if the triangle is clicking which minimizes a pure emphasis on beefing up a starting rotation with scorers.

Sam may continue to start, regardless of minutes played.

I think Cole will continue coming off the bench.

The real variable now is PG since Larkin has 2-3 weeks as a starter. If he leads and the team wins, maybe Jose becomes the backup. I doubt it, since they're paying him good money and he has a key role to play.

Yet, if teams go off early with Jose starting and Larkin proves to be a better defender and he keeps hitting open shots, then Shane's defense may see him starting after all.

In tight games:

Shump starts and finishes.
Melo starts and finishes.

I think Acy may end up cementing his claim on a starting spot, unless Fish wants Jason's offense to start the game. He was impactful against Cleveland. Stat was not much of a factor and he should probably come off the bench, though I can't guess how Fish sees him.

Basically, my rotation is the same as DK's post above.

knickscity @ 11/2/2014 6:59 AM
The team so far has always looked better with Acy on the floor, he has to be considered. Somebody has to check kemba...Shumpert has to start. Larkin still gets the nod by default, and obviously Melo. In honesty is doesnt matter who starts at center, but Fisher has to keep rotation them in and out to keep them freash as Big Al is a major problem when he thinks score first.
